So, after I told of my recent sale of a small lot of vintage pencils on eBay for a nice profit, a RL friend has become interested in collecting and selling pencils.
It's not as easy as it may seem.
My friend went through several thrift and antique stores on the hunt for 'old' pencils. His only find was some Coca-Cola pencils from the 60's (not particularly good---he didn't buy them).
The next day, he revisited a thrift shop and found an old school binder from which dropped a vintage Sparco 505 pencil!
He bought the pencil for $0.53 ...and per my (ed-u-muh-kated) experience, it would have a re-sale vaule of about $3.00 (not bad)!
Now, the Sparco I've drawn Fix with is not the same pencil my friend bought, but it is the same brand/model (and probably the same vintage---I haven't seen his yet, he just told me about it over the phone).
Anyway... The Sparco is an ok pencil. It was what you'd call a 'budget' pencil. Even so, it's at least as good as many of today's 'quality' pencils.
The drag is a bit high, albeit the graphite is good: the lines are consistent and erase easily without (much) smudging. :3
