Mushrooms again?
A little slip.
Again folks, this comic takes place long before and significant sexual revolution. Arranged marriages between two young furs is not uncommon, especially in small towns where there may be a limited number of any one species. You can tell that this revelation tugs right at the core of Gwendolyn's personal values.

Haven't thought about it. I'll have to come up with something and color her for fun. She has a generic skunk pattern.

The little skunk girl is adorable, though she certainly is a peculiar brat. XD I'd rather Chucky get married to Gwendolyn.

Oh believe me I'm well aware of such practices. And the fact that it still exists even in today in some obscure places and cultures.

Must really suck to have arranged marriages in a small fur community. I get my ass to the big city to avoid that.

Wait! Chucky's parents were killed by robbers?!
Does this mean that Chucky is in fact... Batman!?!?
MviluUatusun
3 years, 10 months ago
Nah.  That can't be.  Bruce Wayne knew his parents well enough that he could avenge their death (deaths?).  Chucky says he never knew his parents.  Plus, he's a poor skunk.  Of course, he could just be portraying himself to be poor so he can sneak up on the bad guys.  Sounds plausible.  Right?
Chucky

He doesn't have the anger or vigilante spirit to become the Batskunk.

Chucky seems like he's not too sure how much of his knowledge he should divulge to Gwendolyn.  Likely as not, she left that book where he could find it so he could learn more about her.

BTW, Kevin (the rabbit?) looks familiar.  Is he the ancestor of another Kevin we know?
Chucky

No relation. Kevin Snowpaw requested a cameo years ago and I finally found a spot for his character in this comic instead of the last one. Gwendolyn did not specifically leave her book out for him, but she was quite impressed and a little startled by how deep he dug.

Oh.  I see.  Well, that makes a lot of sense.

I'm genuinely confused.  This is a medieval setting with features that didn't exist until the latter half of the 19th century and early 20th century.  (public education in the form of primary school)

I guess I'm just going to have to take the alternate universe excuse since a midriff bearing shirt would also totally not be a thing until the 20th century.

about 50,000 years in the future since human times :P

Well, the part that is confusing me is am I supposed to be assuming a direct analogy to human development, or did this society progress differently?
RokukeShiba
3 years, 10 months ago
society progress differently since they are in the north west of usa and canada
Chucky
3 years, 10 months ago
Understandable. Chucky's society progressed on a very different timeline. In this time of Chucky's society, he lives in the country of Cascadia which is still in a middle-ages setting with regards to most technology, lifestyle, and infrastructure. If you were suddenly dropped into his home town of Silverbrook, it would look like a well-to-do European village of the 15th-16th century. A few differences, as you've noticed, are that they have structured primary education, so a well educated populace, at least in the basics. They're also not repressed when it comes to clothing and personal style. So a little skunk girl can run around all she wants with her belly showing without worry.

Not mentioned is that other parts of the world at this time are experiencing an industrial revolution, so acquiring goods from those places isn't hard to do. Cascadia has some political trouble that's holding it back.

Here is Chucky's character sheet. Go to the World/Setting part. It explains things in a little more detail.

A female mammal has a finite number of eggs in her at birth, when the last one ovulates that's it: none left. Has Gwendolyns magical rejuvenation also created another batch from nothing and restored her fertility? Even if it did she seems apart from normal Fur society; a relic of a bygone age with no interest in engaging in the wider world or the nascent industrial revolution just over the horizon. Chucky might find spending his life with her limiting and stagnant, despite all her good will.

This bratty skunk girl might not be for him, but I suspect Grandma Trudy would advise him to travel the world for a year or three and decide who he wants to be before settling down with anybody. If 'witches helper / apprentice / lover' is what he wants to be, Gwendolyn's not going anywhere in the meantime.
Chucky

I didn't know that about female eggs. Well, I probably did but long since forgot. You're correct about Gwendolyn, she disengaged from society a long time ago. I'm going to touch on this a bit later in her conversations with Chucky.
RokukeShiba

also shows how she talks kinda like a robot
Chucky
3 years, 10 months ago
She spends most of her time alone, thinking in technical terms relating to magic, botany, and chemistry. If she decides to spend more time with Chucky, she'll probably loosen her speech up a bit.
