A soliloquy from an unpublished book of mine. As told by a poet jerboa known as Petalweight. Enjoy!

Love. What is it? A yearning for that ultimate embrace? Perhaps, it is that first sip of wine that beckons you to further sultry vice. Is it pleasure? Pain? A mixture of the two? Haha! Indeed, I suspect these lovely avenues are guided by the signposts written in the blood-red beating of the heart! But the mere element of it all justifies nothing!

To want. To need. To love. Check the heart wisely when traveling these perilous roads. To want is akin to a coveting! Have ye seen those taverns filled to brim with the unconscious?! Mayhap, the hares have been overfed! These men are nothing more than animals driven to drink more than they can tolerate! To want. To desire. To lust! The rats have thee!

Do you look upon me as one whom is driven by satiation? Aye! You may, for I do enjoy your praise, but enjoy it is all! This is not love! To love praise is to fail at all things beyond it! I could not speak but once, and ever after, only repeat! I am inspired by far more than a mere fondness of my craft.

To want. To need. To need?! To eat our fill and carry our burdens through what road life deems inevitable?! To travel this pathway is paramount… but is this love?! Nay! But rather it is quite absent of any substance at all! To require anything in life is a burden not worthy of any man, yet we still carry it out of necessity!

Oh! To be simply spirit where love may flourish! Life and its constraints can quite weary this man! We must do what we must, but to love it is folly! There are many aspects to our being that go far beyond what is expected of us, and there, perhaps, is where love is found!

To want. To need. To love! To be inspired! To dream! To imagine and create from such imaginings–this is true love! A man is not complete until he has done so, and there must be nothing to stand in his way in order to accomplish the goal! One cannot love without action! To do so would be mere lust, and I have far more aspirations than a mere happy rat!

To lust is to want, to require is to need, but to strike out into this impossible world with a heart as true as mine can be called nothing less than love! A man can be so great if he so chooses, but to accept the two alternatives will make him no greater than a rabbit! And sadly… there be many who do.

But fear not for me! I have chosen love above all! I shall carry my burden with haste so that I may sing my songs before thee! I shall speak loudly and sincerely to all who will listen, and thy praises will fill me with inspiration! I will defy lust and wanting for better things so that my true nature shall be enacted! For these are the words of Petalweight, and wherever he speaks, ye shall hear nothing but love from his happy lips!
