I looked into it. Some axes are considered a "blunt" instruments/weapons because, while the edge can be sharpened, the functionality is more about using the weight of the ax head to strike a surface, since all the weight is on one end. This means that its wielder can ultimately put less effort into a swing, but still achieve an acceptable result.
Inversely, things like swords are all about the user being the key factor in putting enough force behind the cutting edge to do any damage, since most of the weight is distributed evenly.

prediction is he raises the axe and the cops (probably off screen at the moment) show up and shoot him dead. imminent threat is met with deadly force, you don't say "freeze", you don't say "drop it" you deliver a 'double tap' to the 'centre of mass' and End the threat. also known as "Effective policing." --GF
