Well, Estella's not an easy opponent, so she ain't a Nancy, and even though the Comic says he's a Drunk, you don't get that emancipated by merely drinking.
You only get that Skeletal if you're abusing Drugs like Meth, and his constant anger, notable pain tolerance and ridiculous strength is another Symptom of Meth abuse.
For some reason, I Keep dreading that a Rape/Near-rape scene is going to occur, since with that Crackhead's Deranged mental state, he may not be above violating his own daughter to "Put her in her Place", especially considering how he was going to try and murder Evie for having the twisted belief she was "stealing Estella from him", rather than looking at himself and realizing he's the one who pushed her away.
Especially so when he said, "How far do I have to Go..." , which sounds ominous enough already. We know he needs Estella alive, but not Evie, so that means he's willing to murder Evie, but not Estella, and at this point, I can see that to his eyes, a "Mere beating" won't stop her from fighting him, and in his deranged state, he's likely to Pole-Vault across the Moral Event Horizon, and attempt to rape his own Daughter to "Keep her down".

But I think you're right. There's more than just alcohol abuse going on here, I'm sure. Possibly crack, or maybe meth or some other quite nasty substance.
