It's a difficult conundrum, because how else would you write it? What noun would you substitute that actually describes a world of sentient, humanoid animal people that doesn't sound misplaced or silly?

Theres a couple ways around that conundrum when writing, human sounds the best but theres also "you peice of absolute filth" or " peice of fucking shit". The best way to get around it is to either name the races for your world( which can be difficult for worldbuilding) or to hop around it using a different phrase as i stated above, but to help fix your immersion sanguine think of it more like they were all human at some point or thats what is considered human in the characters world.

The best way to solve this?... Walk away. Stella just said that without her he'd have been worse off. So she should leave him to slowly self-destruct rather than give him the quick death he seems to have been asking for silently.
