The setting in Duran, New Mexico in July 1960;
This is the mower owned by Al and Marge Coyote. It is a brand new 1960 Toro Whirlwind that Al and Marge had purchased in late January of 1960 while they were still at the low introductory price before the prices went up as spring came.
Although the mower has the appearance of an electric mower, it is a gas powered mower. The covering over the motor is for aesthetic purposes. Unlike the mower belonging to Randy Fox's parents, and the mower belonging to Frank and Wanda Coyote, this mower is equipped with a recoil starter so you don't have to wrap the start cord on the crank pulley with each attempt to start it.

I agree with moyomongoose. Many things was made to last much better than they are today. Many things today seem to have built in obsolescence, just so you have to fix or replace them often. Welcome to modern tech. O.o

Neat thing about today however, if you got the cash, and skills, one can get one of the few modern metal 3D printers, and indefinitely make new parts to help keep something like this old mower going forever.

I don't think any one of them can print a full engine block though, I have have seen a few industrial 3D printers that can.

One real net and far less expensive process is using a far cheaper PLA 3D printer. Use that to form a part to make a mold with, and pour metal into the mold. Lastly, smooth and polish. ^.^

I'm torn about 3D printers. On one paw, I see how that can change lives, etc... one the other, well... I like Lego (enough said). :(

I have owned a basic 3D printer for at least three months, but I have never used it.

Seeing you are into Legos, a basic PLA Printer might be good for you. Mix that with a 3D printer pen, and use that to plastic weld fuse parts together, allowing you to make things far bigger than the printer itself can make alone.

Some draw backs of 3D printers. Making things with Legos is interactive, fun, and faster than with a 3D printer, no matter the printer you are using. It takes time to learn how to use it, and each one is different. You need to print in a well ventilated area if using ABS (ABS is toxic), for it can smell, and some things you should not be breathing in. The printing area needs to stay warm, mostly when printing with ABS. And on top of any possible malfunctions, some have been known to start a fire. So, you need to be able to monitor it wile it is printing.

If you are not a tech head, nor have the cash to buy a pro grade printer, I'd say, for now, just stick with the legos, or get a 3D pen. Those are said to be quite fun. ^.^

If you do go with a 3D pen, try using PLA or PETG.

One thing to do with those, is buy sheets of plastic found here:

Cut the sheets to shapes you want. You can cut quickly enough with a dremal. Get a Dremal MAX, those are surprisingly good for this!

One other thing. If you get a good air heater, you can heat it up and bend it over something solid. If you want any curved shapes.

You can use an air gun also.

Use a wood burner with a razor cutter point to cut shapes out of the plastic sheets too. You can get this one at Walmart for a good price, and it will have lots of interchangeable tips to choose from. Best part, you can control the temp.

Use the 3D printer pen to weld fuse the shapes together.

Use the wood burner kit to finish smoothing things out, then paint with this:

It's not counterfeiting Lego. It's an alternative to working with their blocks alone exclusively. Think of it as adding to what you already do with legos. Not as a replacement for.

Seeing this mower, reminds me of two things. A guy that made a flying RC toy that actually looks like a mower. How funny it be to see a guy push a mower onto a field, grab a controller as though he was going to mow the yard wirelessly, only to see the mower take to the air. It's been done. ^.^

I am also reminded of a movie I saw a few years ago, called a Hobo With A Shotgun. You would have to see the movie to know why a mower reminds me of that.
