May Autumntail, tailoress of Aspen Village
It's been two years since last I drew Monty and this is my second attempt at drawing him. He will make his appearance later in Demordicai Diamonds toward the end of the first story-arc.

Monty is the captain of the Aspen Village guard and has lived on Relma all forty years of his life. He's never ventured far from his hometown of Aspen Village and eventually became captain of the local guard, a position which he takes very seriously. Out of all of the handful of local guards, he is by far the most skilled in swordplay and woodland survival and commands the respect of his underlings to the point of being a father-like figure.

From childhood, Monty has always had an interest in swordplay and dreamed of one day being in command of a band of warriors. His goals shifted when a string of gruesome murders in his hometown occurred, leaving him bereft of his first love. He poured all his time and energy into playing detective and discovering the source of the murders and ending it. Ultimately, he was successful but more would end up dead by the time he finally put the clues together. He was rewarded with his now current position as captain and instead of warriors to command he got guards instead. While different from his original intentions years ago, it satisfied him greatly to have more resources available with which to watch over his hometown.

After the loss of his first love, Monty later started courting another local vixen, one six years his junior who would in time become the local tavern-keeper: Juna Autumntail. Their relationship has been a rocky one over the years, ending in violent arguments only to start up again in several weeks and then end again the same as previously. Their spats have become quite well known in the village and are often one of the staple gossip topics.

Tragedy struck again for the second time in Monty's life. Shortly after a successful collaborative attempt to get Juna away from her corrupt father, which ended in his death, raiders descended upon the little village leaving almost all of the adult population dead with only the children spared and a small handful of surviving adults who either hid, ran, or were out of town at the time. Monty, who was away with Juna at the time at his cottage just outside of the village, failed to foresee such events and the village and it's small guard were caught completely unaware. Heartbroken, Monty returned to the village and built up the zeal and determination to put his former detective skills he acquired earlier in his life to use again and set out to deliver justice. Unfortunately for his heart, the trail of the bandits went strangely cold and he could do little but return to what was left of his hometown empty-handed.

His relationship with Juna was still as rocky as ever but now ending in more dramatic break-ups and the span in-between reunions became longer and longer. The children grew up, several of them apprenticing under Monty and becoming guards themselves. More vigilant and stalwart than ever before, Monty defends his village with both sword and a sleuthing mind, always on the look out for the signs of evil that may descend upon his village. With all the skills he has honed and his shortcomings to haunt him, Monty regards himself as the best protector Aspen Village has left both in skill and intent.

It wouldn't be until later when he finds himself and his life's work challenged and completely outdone by a traveler, rattling his world and turning it upside down in a way he had never foreseen or experienced. For the third time in his life, drastic change sweeps his hometown. He may have failed to predict it once again but it isn't too late to right things. This time he knows exactly who is to blame and where to find them but yet he hesitates even in the face of the haunted shadows of his previous shortcomings. Is the might of a captain's sword truly the answer?
