So I've been neglecting my comic a tad bit recently. That's because of something EVERY comic artist suffers from is: Burnout.
While back-tracking through my older art, I reminisced over all the pieces I originally made. Impromptu pieces capturing slice-of-life moments, trying to put emotion into each piece. SO I resolved to get through my burnout rut with some deviant pictures: fan art of others artists, some sketches here and there... and now this.
After coming up with my little "blow off some steam" ideas, I got past my art rut. I have the layout ready and figured out, so this weekend I'll make the next comic page for you guys.
Little known fact: I was a Cub Scout Leader for five years. Life-long member of Scouting too. I'm not active now though. It is something I truly enjoyed and miss greatly. I think with my habit of drawing Cub these days though would make it a bad idea to reattempt being a Leader again. Sigh...
Hope you guys enjoy Aiden in a cub Scout uniform while we wait for the next comic page. Thanks for sticking with me. I love you all! <3

Awwww I was in scouts a long time ago. Camping was fun!

Our campground had an area close to some sand dunes, where locals would shoot firearms at clay pigeons. It was always a thrill as a kid to go scooping up shell casings and finding non-broken pigeons (we don't have a huge gun culture up here in Canadia, lol).

LOL, if one of our gun-nut idiots in the states misses a pigeon they'll go track it down on the ground later & blow it to pieces to save their ego.

Earning ranks and badges as a kid was a big thing. It was always a thrill to teach kids things, like knotwork and archery or first aid... and seeing their eyes light up when they know they've EARNED a promotion or badge... Man, the amount of energy they put forth to qualify for things was amazing. Sharing passion for a constructive hobby and lifestyle is what made our community strong. <3

I'm so glad to hear you got through the drought & found your Muse again! This pic evokes both cubbish wonder and horrible regret in me at the same time. Truth is, I'm almost 50 now & have never once been camping. I love - DEARLY LOVE the outdoors & deep forests, mountains, panoramic vistas & the concept of camping out among the stars & watching the world without the stress of a city. Sitting in a closet floor not 20 feet from me is a 3-room 16-man tent that has never even been taken out of the original box. With my life as hectic as it is & so many depending on me 24/7 I've never found even a few minutes to enjoy that primitive aspect of life & nature I've craved since the days I was a Cub Scout in 1978.

But through art like yours I can dream those days that never happened.

Aiden here would be feeling the semi-hard earth lumpy under the bottom of the tent fabric. The warm afternoon air carries the almost-stuffy tent-smell and enhances it. The steady wind outside is rustling the tree tops, and although the swishing sound is a sea of noise, the world around is almost silent, save for the occasional loud bird chirping at these harmless intruders. The feeling of wonder, being allowed to sleep all alone, in the middle of nowhere.
Being a responsible adult makes it difficult to run off and do these things on a whim. Especially as a Caretaker. But if you ever get some grandkids on the weekend, and you have a backyard to play in, you'd be making their eyes bulge out in joy if they were allowed to sleep in the backyard for a night. Pro-tip: give them something like a pot to pee into when it's 3am and chilly outside. Nobody wants to walk on dew-laden grass or early morning drizzles to go for a long bathroom walk, :D

As delightful as that scenario plays out in my mind, there will be no children, grandchildren or others in my lineage. I am nearly a half-century old now & have no children to my blood, so there will be no grandchildren as my spouse is of the same gender.
