Chapter Ten

Iuana sits down next to Teddy’s sleeping figure his head near her lap, she placing a hand on either side of his face and leaning toward him, resting her forehead on his. “It’s time to wake up Teddy.”

Teddy wakes up, a smile filling his face when he sees nothing but Iuana’s big beautiful eyes in front of him, he defiantly could get used to something like this. “I wouldn’t dream of sleeping in.”

Tahki walks up to the two of them. “Alright you two love birds knock it off and start getting ready, only a few more hours of travel and then we’ll be at the meeting point.”

Teddy sits up as both he and Iuana get to their feet, Tahki and Shiya already up and preparing to start their journey once again.

It had been several days since the group of four had left the village of Raven Wolf to journey to meet with the chieftain of Whistling Wind -the tribe in which Teddy descended from- with the intent to have Teddy removed from their tribe so that he could become an official member of Raven Wolf.

Teddy begins to gather up his weapons, a spear and a blade that Tahki had given to him should he need to use them. Luckily their journey up until this point had not been met with any trouble at all.

Tahki was expecting the problems to arise when the chieftains met and started their discussions. The removal of a member from their tribe was not often a task that would go over simply through talks, especially if this member wished to join the opposing tribe.

Teddy was hoping that it would not come to that though, if a decision could not be made between the chieftains than the words would have to be said through the actions of the tribe’s proudest and most powerful warriors. If that happened then Tahki would have to fight his father, that clearly not a favourable situation for him.

Shiya begins moving ahead, he turning back and motioning for them to follow her. “It’s not that much further.”

The other three begin to follow him, Iuana keeping close to Teddy’s side as they traveled. When Iuana had learned that Teddy would be accompanying them she had been thrilled, and had practically not left his side since the journey had started. Having him there to talk to was a lot better than having only Tahki and her father to talk to.

Teddy had to admit that he was actually liking this journey, it felt a lot more casual than the last time he had traveled with Iuana and the two of them had been growing closer and closer to one another as the days passed.

*******

Vaan stands in the middle of a very large open room that was void of furniture, harsh dark metal walls giving the room a cold and very unwelcoming feel. The other super soldiers within the Domestic Military, Dolly and General Mort all standing around him in wait as he works.

Zack looks around him at his surroundings. “This certainly brings back some unpleasant memories...”

Vaan speaks up, he not looking up from the small hand held computer he was working on. “It’s a recreation of the virtual trainer the True Blood’s use to put us through. It took a while for me to have built as Domestic technology is nowhere near as advanced as the True Blood’s, I’ve actually been working on it for years, today will be the first day of official use.

Zack frowns as he looks back to him. “You’ve at least tested it out right?”

Kane looks back to Zack, the large tigers arms crossed as they usually were. “Brights had Lockheart test it out last night, everything is in working order.”

Chase lets out a tired yawn as he nods his head. “Yeah... I’ve been playing as the guinea pig for this room since becoming a member of the military... It’s not enjoyable for me in the least...”

Vaan stops his works for a moment as he looks back to Chase yelling at him coldly. “Not enjoyable for you!? Think of what I have to go through always having you fall asleep on me during testing! There is quite possibly no word in any language that can accurately describe how frustrating you are to work with!”

Chase is standing on spot with his eyes closed, Vaan frowning when he realizes that he had fallen asleep, clearly he not even listening to what he had to say. He quickly turning toward General Mort. “General please reconsider me having him as my partner!”

General Mort shakes his head no. “Lockheart has the highest scoring battle capabilities out of all of you super soldiers, with your tendency to score so low you need your partner to make up for what you lack.”

Dolly looks over to General Mort, judging from the fact that he was no longer hiding this fact when in her presence Brights or Lockheart must have informed him that she already knew about them being super soldiers.

Kane raises his voice yelling at the sleeping mink. “Wake up Lockheart!”

Chase opens his eyes with a start, he nodding his head as he begins pacing around the group in an attempt to keep himself awake.

General Mort looks the group over. “We’ll be using this room to make a battle simulation of your upcoming mission, you will go through it constantly experiencing different scenarios that may occur during until the Raven Wolf trials, this will illuminate any surprises we may run into and give us the experience and knowledge we need to make this mission go by smoothly and without failure. Today however you’ll be going through a trial run, to get you used to the system and one another, you’ll be faced with various combat simulations that you will need to get through together and your performances will be gauged on how well you are able to do that.”

He points to each of them beginning to divide them. “I will be splitting you from your partners for this. You have already learned to work with them for your missions, but in concerns to this one you will have to learn to work with more than just your partner but your whole team. For now we will work with groups of three before you are made to work with the entire group of six. Magellan, Brights and Quincy will be one team, Swartz, Lockheart and Conner will be the other.”

Alistair looks annoyed with this set up. “You’re sticking me with Brights and Magellan? You know that Brights is completely useless and that I don’t work well with Magellan.”

Mort looks back to the fuming coyote. “You will learn to work with you companions Quincy, the upcoming mission requires that from you. To not be able to do that will bring about failures as results, which is of course not acceptable.”

Kane looks over to Alistair. “You should feel yourself lucky, I’m stuck with the one that always falls asleep and the wild.”

Dolly looks to Kane raising her voice to him. “I have a name and I expect you to use it.”

Alistair begins to laugh as he turns toward Dolly. “Really? I didn’t realize you went by any name, your stench was so strong that I thought you went by that instead.”

Zack grabs onto the front of Alistair uniform in a threatening manner, Alistair doing the same as the two of them hatefully stare at the other, General Mort moving between the two of them and pushing them apart. “That’s enough! You will work as a team, do not make me repeat myself again.” He turns back to Kane. “Furthermore, this is not a competition, so who you have on your team and who is on the other does not matter. Just complete the trials that are given to your groups.”

Mort looks back to Vaan. “How are you coming with the room’s programming set up?”

Vaan walks over to him, having him the small handheld computer that acted as the room’s controller. “Everything should be ready to go, just pick and choose the scenarios you want to give us and the room should do the rest.”

Alistair grins as he looks over to Kane. “Mort says it’s not a competition, but I say I’ll get through these trials faster than you and your group can, even if I have Brights and Magellan slowing me down.”

General Mort lets out a rough grunt, interrupting the conversation to keep it from going any further, unfortunately the challenge between the two groups had already been set between them even without words to confirm it.

General Mort inputs something into the small computer, he looking back to the group. “You’re first task will be to defeat all of your enemies.”

Dolly jumps with a start as everything around her begins to change, the steel walls and floor being replaced with a dark red sky and trenches of dirt.

Chance looks over to her as he tries to reassure her. “Don’t be scared there’s nothing to worry about, it’s just a computer simulation, virtual reality.”

Dolly looks back to him as she nods her head, she had never before experienced anything like this before, it was absolutely amazing.

A tall storage container builds itself from the ground up in the middle of the group of three, Kane walking over to it and opening it, it holding weapons and radio headsets for them to use, Kane taking them out and passing them to his team.

Dolly takes a hand gun in one hand and a combat knife in her other as she is handed them, she looking down at them in amazement, her grip on them tightening, they felt real, like she was holding real objects in her hand. Though that must be impossible seeing as she had seen these objects manifest right in front of her.

Chase begins to check his weapon to make sure it was working properly and was loaded, just as if he would he had a real gun. “Pretty neat isn’t it Miss. Conner.”

Dolly places the knife in her belt and fits the headset on her, then she begins checking the weapon over like her other two group members were, everything in place and ready to use. “It’s incredible.”

Kane looks the group over once he has finished his check on his weapon. “Now then, let’s not let Quincy and the others show us up. Remember, we have to defeat all of them, so try not to overlook any.”

Dolly turns away from Kane as she watches as figures all begin to appear one by one, all of them clothed in black and armed with weapons. “Just how many of them are there?”

Kane aims his weapon ahead of him. “We’ll find that out after we’ve taken them all out.” He fires his weapon, hitting one of the virtual figures in the head, it falling down to the ground motionless.”

Chase wakes up with a start, he having dozed off for a moment, the loud sound of gunfire waking him once again. “Ah shoot, I fell asleep again.”

He aims his weapon beginning to fire it, taking out figure after figure flawlessly, this action stopping when he begins to drowse off again, Dolly quickly lifting her own weapon and firing it into the air to wake him up, Chance jumping with a start once again before resuming what he had been doing.

Kane grabs onto Dolly pushing her down to the ground with him. “Get down!” Gunfire sounds as the dirt above them is shot at.

Chase reacts quickly, almost instinctively as his body moves to avoid being hit by the bullets, he shortly taking cover with Kane and Dolly, reloading his weapon and preparing to attack again.

Kane looks back to Dolly. “Fell free to join in at any time Conner.”

Dolly nods her head, a little embarrassed that she had not yet done anything to help them yet, the whole virtual room just so startling to her. “Of course! I just-” She bites her tongue now not the time for excuses, she gripping the weapon she held in her hands, getting to her feet when there is a break in the gunfire and firing, taking down two enemies before they duck down behind cover, Dolly being forced to do the same when they begin to fire back.

Kane hits Chase on the side of the head waking him up again. “How can you sleep through this noise?”

“I’m sorry! I can’t help it!” He shakes his head as he looks over to Kane and Dolly. “We’re not going to take them out fast enough like this, we need to get in there and deal with them up close and personal, that way they won’t be able to hide behind anything.”

He looks back Kane towards Dolly. “Conner, next time there’s a break in the gunfire you and me are going to go rushing in.” He looks over to Kane. “Swartz will watch our backs from here, make sure that no one surprises us.”

Dolly nods her head, though the plan did sound reckless it would indeed solve the problem quickly, not to mention that Chase and Kane were both super soldiers so something like this should be easy, Dolly was going to have to do her best and take risks in order to keep up with them. “Understood.”

Dolly readies herself as she waits, Chase giving her the signal when the break in the gunfire presents itself, she and Chase climbing out of the trench they had been hiding behind and rushing forward, both of them firing their weapons as they ran forward, Dolly managing to cripple or take down the targets she aimed at while Chase took done each one he targeted only using a single shot for each one.

The two reach the wall that the enemy is using to shield themselves with, jumping over it and grabbing onto the combat knives that Kane had given to them, the both of them clearing out the enemies figures as fast as they could, gun shots ringing as Kane shoots them from the distance he is at should one of them try to attack Chase or Dolly via ranged attack or a blind spot, the area cleared in no time at all.

Kane contacts the two of them threw their radio headset. “I’m getting shot at from behind, distract the gunfire from where you are so that I can get close to them, then back me up from you’re position.”

Chase and Dolly both look back, another group of enemies on the other side of the trench they had first been by. Dolly frowning, they much too far for her to hit with the weapon she had right now. “I’m not going to be able to hit them from this distance.”

Chase lets out a yawn as he begins to search through the figures that lay on the ground around him, he kneeling down and pulling a large sniper rifle from one of them, he checking it over to make sure it was still usable before handing it to Dolly to use. “I’ll draw their attention while use this to target them from here, as long as I’m falling asleep like this I have to keep moving, I’m not going to be able to stay still enough to snipe without dozing off.”

Dolly takes the weapon from him, Chase leaping over the wall they were behind and running, gaining some distance between him and Dolly before he begins firing, drawing their attention to him.

Dolly sets herself up on the wall readying the weapon to use and looking through the scope, targeting an enemy and then firing, taking it out.

Kane pulls himself out of the trench when then enemies attention is now on Chase, he quickly running toward the group to take them out.

*******

Teddy, Iuana, Shiya and Tahki all sit in wait within a clearing within a dense forest, they having reached their designated location and now waiting for the other party to arrive.

Shiya watches as Teddy and Iuana talk to one another, Iuana laughing at something Teddy had said while Teddy sheepishly looks to the side, having not meant to have sounded amusing. Tahki walks up next to him standing over him, she also looking to the two. “They get along well don’t they?”

Shiya nods his head yes. “Yes... it reminds me of my own days as a love sick puppy.” He looks away from them out towards the thick trees that surrounded them, his eyes fixed on a small pathway through them that lead to this clearing. “I wonder how Teddy will fair in the suitors trials should he choose to take them.”

Tahki smiles as she places her hands on her hips, a look of confidence on her face. “Teddy is an incredible warrior and a fast learner, perhaps not as strong as Maigan, but it is clear that he loves Iuana, with that kind of drive to back his strength I have no doubts that he would win.” She looks back over to Teddy, he yet to actually commit to that though. “If he decides to take the trials anyway.”

Iuana and Teddy stop their talking, they both looking from one another and staring in the direction that Shiya is staring in, Tahki too turning around and facing the pathway that lead to the clearing, the sound of footsteps as they travel over the forest floor catching their attention.

Shiya gets to his feet, Iuana and Teddy soon following this action, the travelers soon able to be seen by them as they enter the clearing they are in.

Teddy takes a gulp of breath when he sees his father, the look on his father’s face stern and not at all pleased. Teddy having been dreading this confrontation since their journey here had started.

The expression on the face of his father is a mixture of surprise and anger, he not at all expecting Teddy to be here of all places, he having been missing without so much as a word about it for a long time now. “Teddy. What are you doing here?”

The older wolf that stood next to him lifts his hand silencing him, now not the time for a reunion between the two of them. He looking over to Shiya and beginning to speak, this elder wolf the leader of Whistling Wind. “I understand that you wished to speak to me about a member of my tribe entering yours, but I did not think it was Teddy of all people.”

Shiya glances over to Teddy. “Will that be a problem?”

The chieftain nods his head yes. “To have anyone join your tribe would indeed be an ordeal, your tribe is cursed, the fate you live is fearful and not one that I would want to fall upon anyone. But Teddy is the son of my tribe’s strongest warrior and my closest friend, he is not someone that I can so easily hand over to be cursed.”

Iuana is holding her breath as she stares at Teddy’s father, she nudging Teddy not taking her eyes from him. “That’s your father...?”

Teddy nods his head yes. “Yeah that’s him.”

“Do you think you’ll grow to be as big as him?”

Teddy frowns as he looks back to father’s towering and almost tank like build. “No, I’m pretty sure that I won’t.”

Dolly seems a little disappointed with this news. “Oh, that’s too bad then.”

Teddy looks back at her annoyed by the comment. “Hey!”

Shiya takes a step forward as he tries to convince the chieftain to change his mind. “If you could reconsider, Teddy has made it very clear that he would like to become a member of Raven Wolf and has been living among us even before that decision was made. He understands what it means to become a member of Raven Wolf.”

The chieftain of Whistling Wind is interrupted from responding as Teddy’s father lets out a deep growl, raising his voice to Shiya and taking several steps toward him. “Teddy has no idea of what he’s getting into!”

Tahki moves forward to protect Shiya, she taking the spear that she held and pointing it at Teddy’s father, immediately stopping his advance. He staring at her for a moment before looking over to Teddy. “I will not have my son cursed.”

Teddy sighs as he crosses his arms. “You’re going to go on about that again?”

His father nods his head. “To be removed from life’s sacred circle would make you no different than a monster.”

Teddy begins to argue with his father, the people of Raven Wolf no such thing. “That’s not true! The members of Raven Wolf are not monsters at all but friends that I cherish! They live as normally as they can in the situation they are in, with friends families and anything else someone who is not cursed would have.”

“You are blind to reality!”

Teddy holds his hand to himself, now not the time for his father’s superstitions. “Come on Dad! Can’t you just be happy that I’ve finally found myself and a place I belong? For the first time in my life I’m finding contentment in being a wild, I’m not embarrassed or spiteful of this fact like I’ve been my entire life before!”

Teddy’s father doesn’t seem to be one to easily change his mind. “Leave the village of Raven Wolf and return home. You disappeared without so much as a word to any member of your family, your mother and sister are both worried sick about you.”

Teddy argues back with him. “I don’t see why this decision is not my own! I’m not a child, I’ve been making my own decisions and takes care of myself for years now! Not to mention that I never even grew up as a member of Whistling Wind, I grew up as a domestic. So why do I need either yours or your chieftain’s permission to do what I want to do!?”

“Don’t you get it? Once you join you will have no turning back! You will be cursed forever!”

Iuana speaks up in her tribe’s defence, that not exactly the truth. “It’s not forever! The curse can be lifted!”

Teddy’s father looks to Iuana. “Only when the domestics are completely gone will the curse be lifted, and never once has you or your tribe even tried to do that!” He looks to Shiya. “Even your chieftain knows the curse will never be lifted from his people.”

Shiya crosses his arms as he looks to the side, a rather remorseful expression now on his face. “You’re probably right... the conditions of the curse would mean to make my tribe mass murders, I will not let my people to be made into that, but that does not mean that I will stop looking for a way to end it.”

Teddy looks back to Shiya. “I’m fine by that.”

Teddy’s father shakes his head. “No you are not.”

Teddy frowns as he looks back to his father. “Oh so you’re going to start telling me what to think to?”

His father begins to explain. “You are my son and I have seen for myself the way you have grown and your views on the world, the only reason you are ‘fine with it’ is because you don’t actually think that spirits are real or that the curse truly exists. If you see the spirits and realize the extent of Raven Wolf’s curse you will think very differently.”

The chieftain of Whistling Wind looks over to Shiya, this concerning him. “He has not yet seen the Raven or Wolf spirit?”

Shiya shakes his head, Teddy’s father very correct in his assumption. “No.”

Teddy’s father looks back to Shiya now speaking to him. “Show him the spirits that have cursed you and your people, of the curse that will become his if he is to join.”

The chieftain of Whistling Wind agrees with this request. “It is only right that you do Shiya, one cannot join Raven Wolf while they are blind to the spirits and their curse.”

Teddy lets out a tired sigh, this who ordeal stupid, this something that should be his decision alone. Iuana places her hand upon Teddy’s arm catching his attention, Teddy looking back to her and realizing that she not only had a frightened look on her face, but that her whole body was trembling. “Iuana... are you ok?”

Iuana doesn’t say a word as she just shakes her head no, her grip on Teddy’s arm tightening.

Shiya sighs to himself and he nods his head, the request that the chieftain and Teddy’s father had was a completely understandable and reasonable one. “You are absolutely right...”

Iuana is not the only one to change in mood, Tahki also looking to be rather edgy in concerns to this request. “Chieftain... is this really necessary?”

Teddy’s father and the Chieftain of Whistling Wind seem set on this happening, clearly Shiya would not be able to so easily back out of this. He now beginning to search around him spotting a blue butterfly near them, he approaching it and holding his hand toward it, the small creature fluttering its wings for a moment but not moving from the flower it had been perched on.

Shiya speaks to the small insect in a remorseful tone. “I’m sorry about this.”

Teddy looks over to Iuana, not understanding what it was he was seeing. “What is your father doing?”

Iuana turns away from Shiya, not wanting to watch what was happening. “He is going to make the raven and the wolf spirit appear...” She lowers her head. “The spirits will come show themselves to you when they have a message or a need, you cannot just ask them to come whenever it is most convenient for you, there are certain steps that much first be met.”

Teddy still doesn’t seem all that clarified. “Like... some sort of a ritual or something.”

Iuana shakes her head no, it not exactly like that. “One does not just beckon the Wolf or Raven spirit to come, they will only appear for a reason. Raven and Wolf spirit have both changed from what they once were, and they can only be called upon for very exact reasons, so there is only one way to call them. Raven spirit will only come to bring a curse down upon someone... while Wolf spirit will come only to steal a soul of one who had been cursed.”

The sky begins to grow dark and a cold wind begins to blow, a shrill call of a bird echoing around them.

Teddy looks around him, this not normal at all, he looking back to the others, though frightened none of them looked surprised by this.

Teddy’s father looks back to Teddy when he realizes that his attention is right now all over the place. “Watch.”

Teddy looks back to his father for a moment, he following the order as he turns back to Shiya watching as a large shadow begins to appear before him, the loud screech once again sounding as the shadow gathers and then breaks apart, revealing a giant black raven with outstretched wings and glowing red eyes, the shrill scream coming from the large creature.

Iuana hides her body behind Teddy with her tail tucked between her legs, her frightened trembling growing even worse, her eyes tightly shut tightly and ears flat down against her head. Teddy couldn’t really blame her for being as frightened as she was, not when all of this was happening.

The large raven closes his wings and lowers its head, turning its head to the side and staring directly at Teddy with its frightening red eyes, it eventually turning away from him and looking down at the small butterfly that Shiya was holding his hand toward, the large bird eyeing it for a moment, its red eyes growing brighter as mark representing the curse of Raven Wolf begins to appear on the wing of the butterfly. The giant Raven lets out another shrill cry as it opens its wings flying into the air, it’s massive for changing back into shadows and disappearing.

The small butterfly that now cares the mark and curse of Raven Wolf lifts it’s self into the air as it flutters about the clearing the group currently stood in. Tahki taking blade by her side when the insect come nears her, swiping her blade at it and cutting it in two, the small creatures movements stopping as it falls down to the ground dead.

Once again the shadows appear, a deep growl filling the air as they begin to form into another figure, this one much larger and even more frightening than the Raven Spirit, a huge black wolf with glowing red eyes turning its head towards the sky and letting out a chilling howl, the spirit than lowering its head staring down at the body of the recently deceased. A snarling growl filling its throat as it moves toward it, the ground shaking every time one of her large paws hit the ground. It coming to a stop over the body and opening its mouth, sharp white fangs gleaming as it begins to draw the spirit from the body, a white ghost like figure of the butterfly being pulled from the body and sucked toward the wolf’s open mouth, the small soul fighting as it tries to get away, it unable to free itself from the pull, the Wolf Spirit’s jaws snapping shut around the soul and devouring it.

The wolf lets out a growl as it looks over those standing before it, she ignoring them and turning away, the earth once again shaking as she walked, the trembling stopping as her form vanishes just as the Raven Spirit had before it.

Teddy stares ahead of him in silence, he on the ground, his legs having given out on his at some point from fear of what he was seeing, his mouth hanging open yet not saying a single thing, he at a complete lose of words. Not only had he not expected the spirits to be real but never in his life would he had expected them to be so terrifying, the animal spirits NEVER being depicted as such.

The shadows begin to disappears until everything has once again returned to normal, Teddy’s father looking from Shiya and back to his son. “To be marked with a curse and then have your spirit taken when you die. That is the fate that befalls everyone within the Raven Wolf tribe.”

Shiya does not deny the accusations that Teddy’s father is making. “That is the truth.” Teddy looks over to Shiya upon hearing his voice, watching him as he approaches the tiny body of the insect that had been alive only moments ago, he kneeling down next to it and very carefully picking it up, it clear that he felt bad about what had happened to it.  “To be a member of the Raven Wolf tribe is to live a cursed existence, one that will carry with you even in death.”  He cups his hands around the small butterfly. “And there is nothing that I can do to save my people from it...”

“That’s not true...” Everyone looks toward the shaky voice that had spoken up, Iuana who still hid behind Teddy’s back having spoken up in protest despite the fact that he could hardly speak nor move due to the fear this order had caused her. “The curse won’t last forever... it will come to an end.”

The chieftain of Whistling Wind looks to Iuana, Raven Wolf’s story and fate was one known by all at this point. “The spirits would only lift the curse if the tribe of Raven Wolf completely gets rid of all the domestics, it was a difficult enough task when they first received the curse, but now with the numbers the domestics have it is an impossible task.”

Iuana looks over to him. “It’s not the only way! It may not be clear to any of us right now exactly what it is but there has to be! And my father will find it!”

Teddy’s father shakes his head. “Shiya is soon to lose his position as Raven Wolf’s leader. He will be able to do nothing.”

Teddy speaks up while getting back to his feet. “Then I’ll do it.” He looks over to Shiya. “When I win Iuana’s suitor trials and take Shiya’s place the task to break the curse will fall upon me, and I will find a way to end it.”

Teddy’s father lets out a disapproving growl, Teddy continuing to speak, the tone in his voice stern, his mind set, the appearance of the spirits of course frightening but not enough to change his mind. “Raven Wolf is more than just a cursed tribe to me, it is a home more comfortable than anything the conveniences of living in the city could possibly provide, of companions that I would never give up not for anything in the world especially now that I know they were trapped by such a horrible curse.” He looks back down to Iuana who still sat trembling upon the ground behind him, she not yet able to find the strength to get back to her feet. “And Iuana... I can’t just leave her to one day face a fate like that, to have her watch her father’s spirit be devoured by the wolf spirit should something happen to him, to have her own spirit taken by it, or worse yet, to watch her children taken by the beast should something unfortunately happen to them.”

He holds his hand to himself as he speaks to both his father and the chieftain of Whistling Wind. “We have traveled for days to meet with you, to receive the permission and blessings of the chieftain of a tribe I was born into but never a part of, but if you won’t give those things to me than so be it, I do not need either to follow my decision. I am fully capable of becoming a member without them.”

“Iuana’s trials are not that far off, and I will enter them and win them. Making me a member of Raven Wolf, thought I would rather become a member as soon possible I will wait until then if I have to.”

Teddy’s father bares his teeth, what Teddy was saying was true enough, there nothing he could do should he decide to become a member through Iuana’s trials. There was of course the chance that he might lose them, though that was not likely judging from the strength he knew his son to have and the ambition he was right now displaying.

Teddy’s father looks back to the chieftain of his formal tribe. “Fine, let Teddy do as he wishes.” He looks back to Teddy, a cold expression on his face. “You have my permission to do whatever you want, but you do not have my blessings.”

Raven Wolf - 03 - The Warriors - Chapter 09
Raven Wolf - 03 - The Warriors - Chapter 11
Book 3 in the Raven Wolf series.

Due to human negligence the world as we know it has ended and been reborn. The animal spirits that guide man giving them the forms of animals so that they would be able to survive in this new wilderness. Though now carrying the form of beasts man has not forgotten the place they once had, as an existence greater then just what nature wanted of them, an existence above all.

Those that worked to gain their humanity are known as domestics, while those who wished to follow the rolls the spirits had given them were known as wilds. Both groups grew arrogant and hateful of one another, the wilds saw the domestics as selfish monsters, for they were returning to the ways that had once destroyed the world, while the domestics saw the wilds as primitive beings afraid of progress, they no better than wild animals.

The raven and the wolf spirits grew tired of the destruction and fighting, and sided with the wilds in their ideals, the domestics only capable of further destroying nature. In their anger they marked a tribe of wilds with a curse, they being removed from the sacred circle of life, unable to hunt or grow their own food, their souls never able to move on while their bodies are unable to return to the earth when they died. The curse upon them only broken once the domestics are gone once and for all. The cursed tribe now known to all by the name of the spirits whom cursed them. ‘Raven Wolf'
