The fabulous MACH 5 of Speed Racer (original name "マッハGoGoGo"), a manga and anime from late '60s. Also known in Italy as "Superauto Mach5". In 1997 was made a remake cartoon with same name (with minor success)
In 2008 was relaunched as movie of Wachowski bro...sisters (yeah, I'm confused too), with discrete success. In my opinon I didn't find the film so terrible and it was very underrated. Good soundtrack, good story, good effects and a nice cast of actors.
Aired in Italy at the end of the 80s, on a private TV channel called "TMC TeleMonteCarlo", the anime had different name and opening theme (as the major part of japanese cartoon dubbed in Italian). Lately, in the '90s was aired on one of main channels, "Italia1" (when I started to watch it).
After the 2008 movie, an official videogame was created for different game consoles (PS2, PC, Nintendo DS and Wii)
This looks so cool. I really loved the Speed Racer movie. I think part of it's poor reception was the fact it went up against Iron Man. But the style they did that movie in was amazing. Like a living cartoon with all the bright colors and crazy vehicle designs. I thought the plot was really clever too, the whole idea that all the major competitive races had been controlled secretly for so long just as a way of insider trading. And my brother pointed out how that last race was comparable to the Death Star run in Star Wars because they spent the whole movie building up it's importance. I was disappointed we never got Speed Racer sets in LEGO Dimensions. They did so many interesting properties there and I think a level pack recreating the movie would have been a blast. Plus getting a tiny build of the Mach 5 would have been awesome.

Yes, indeed. I too liked the film for that cartoon style, the soundtrack was also very engaging (especially during the "Casa Cristo 5000" rally and the final Grand Prix).
