Kevin smiled as he sat up and yawned and looked around his bedroom for a second with a nod. He checked the clock on his nightstand and smiled as he quietly got up and looked at the bed on the other side of the room, seeing a yellow fox still sleeping soundly. He nodded and silently made his bed again before tiptoeing to the door. It was the fox boy’s birthday and he didn’t wanna wake him up just yet so he could go and plan out his gift. As he walked out, a brown wolf boy was walking up and was about to enter before Kevin stopped him. “Hey Thorn, we should let him sleep so we can surprise him when he wakes up. I know you’re eager to greet your best friend but we don’t wanna wake him.” He chuckled, the wolf looking wide eyed for a second considering Kevin caught him off guard, but slowly nodded as he watched Kevin pull the door shut. “So what did you have planned for him?” The wolf asked, he had an innocence to him that was kind of surprising to Kevin, as he smiled at the smaller wolf and motioned him to follow.
“Truthfully? I have nothing major planned, just gonna help my father prepare him a cake, go and get him a gift. And then do what we do at all birthdays.” He chuckled at the last part, making thorn both laugh and chuckle as he nodded knowing very well what the older wolf meant. “But I will need your help, Papa Kenta won’t let me leave the castle unattended and Ichigo isn't here So she can’t go with me, so I need you to go to the blacksmith in town and pick up the first of his two gifts, the other one will be at the shop.” He explained, thorn taking the time to take a piece of paper out and write it down. Despite not having a role as an actual retainer, he was always prepared to handle orders from the royals, especially his best friend or his best friends twin, Kevin being the twin. “Will he know what I’m talking about? It’s under your name I assume.” Kevin then proceeded to shake his head “nope, to not raise suspicion that I left the castle last week, I put it under a pseudonym, Aeon. Just say Aeon sent you and he should give you what I’m looking for.” He said and nodded as he watched the boy write it down.
“Alright your majesty I won’t let you down, I’ll be back.” He said and turned before running off at a surprising speed. He was about to walk off before Bael walked up. “Left the castle last week huh? I always took you for the goody two shoes of your siblings.” He chuckled as Kevin blushed as he realized he was overheard saying that. “Don’t worry, your secret's safe with me, I have no reason to tell Lord Kenta or King inferno about that.” He said and rubbed Kevin’s Head, before handing him a small box. “By the way, there’s two gifts in there, happy birthday to you and mike. I know you don’t really care about your birthday, but you still deserve a gift.” He smiled and walked off, Kevin seeing the box was half his fur color and half Mikes fur color. He opened his half and saw it was a locket with a divider blocking the other half of the box, it was apparent that it was a two half pieces necklace, and mike got the other. It was simple, yet surprisingly thoughtful for such a cold man like Bael, but Kevin didn’t question it and quickly rushed towards the dining hall to find his father. As he entered, he saw Kenta and Ashe sitting together and talking, most likely about their husband as Kevin walked in, Kenta saw and smiled softly as he rubbed his sons head “happy birthday Kevin, you ready to start helping me set up?” He asked, and chuckled seeing Kevin nodded softly, Kenta knew about how Kevin felt and never really forced him to enjoy his birthday, but he still wanted to make the day special for the boy. Ashe smiled and left them to it as Kenta walked Kevin into the kitchen.
The two started working on making the cake, and it went pretty smoothly, Kenta smiling as he watched Kevin try his best to make it right, as Kevin wasn’t really good in the kitchen, and everyone knew that, but Kenta was proud nonetheless to see Kevin still do a good job helping with the cake. Kenta carefully placed it in the oven and smiled at his little wolf. “Alright, now we just wait for the timer. You don’t have to worry about this part so why not run along and go do something else?” Kenta said and Kevin nodded, hugging his dad before making his way out. He looked around and everything was almost set up, he had a gift coming, the cake was cooking, all that was left was to wait. He smiled and walked back to his room, as he did Thorn was just returning and smiled as he handed Kevin the bag. “Sorry it took so long, I had to get the gift I was giving him to.” He smiled and without a word went to wrap what he bought. He smiled and looked inside the bag to see the item from the blacksmith and the other gift from the shop. He walked into the room and smiled seeing his twin brother waking up and yawning. “Morning Mikey. Happy birthday!” He smiled happily and walked over to hug his twin. Mike smiled and yawned hugging the smaller wolf and nuzzling his younger twin.
“I got you a couple of gifts.” Kevin handed him the bag and Mike pulled out the contents, smiling seeing a charm and a special made dagger for him. “The charm is for Felorine, it’ll make your sword change elements with your emotions, and the dagger is just an extra weapon if the sword fails.” Kevin smiled, and mike gently placed them on the nightstand before taking Kevin and hugging him tightly “I love it.” Mike said happily and nuzzled the wolf happily. He let him go and Kevin smiled “great! Now we have to get ready, get dressed and let’s go birthday boy!” Kevin smiled, as he was ready for the rest of the day, as he had a few things planned
