Dark had a bit of a chequered past, a bit of a geek through most of his school-years as he approached the end of his schooling he fell in with a bit of a bad crowd. During this period he went by the name Krad, took up smoking, got piercings and furtoos trying to fit in better. He ended up working for a little dairy for minimum wage as a stock-boy, and was mad at himself for not living up to his own expectations of himself. This came out in a gruff and off-putting attitude to those around him.
After finding his cane... or rather after it found him really, it changed him (both literally and figuratively ;3). The experience intrigued him so much it rekindled his desire to be more, he started going by Dark again and got himself all cleaned up, then falling back on some of the things he enjoyed doing as a youngling set himself up as a stage performer. Dancing, singing, and magic (with the help of the cane some of it was even real).
As time wore on he found out more about himself and the cane, and has started looking for the remaining pieces of the puzzle as a kind of hobby. So far he has found four of the eight gems that belong with the cane and has been rather enjoying himself finding them and making use of the new abilities they give him, both for entertaining others and himself. >;3
He wears the Turkish puzzle ring to remind him of his roots (it belonged to his father) and because he always enjoyed a good puzzle. The top-hat and vest combo he wears because it feels right to go with the cane, and he always did have an antiquated sense of style despite suppressing it for a while.
