Gotta make the point, most folk look at people who lose their shit over tweets and jokes as being insufferable and pathetic. And they're right to. Sincerely, and I mean this with no shred of hyperbole, behaviour like this is up there with the most sad and pointless of attitudes it is possible for a person to possess. You subtract goodness from the world like the vacuum cleaner of Beelzebub.

I don't know if you saw, but they were actively hunting down/criticizing any of their followers who also followed you. It was really pathetic and shows that you can't be on the fence with these people. You're either this way, or that way. Their way or the highway. I got blocked by a few of them because I'm a "centralist piece of shit". I thought being centered was a good thing, to be able to take in every side for a more balanced view, but apparently not.

Yeah, that part genuinely angers me. I expect unreasonable people to treat me like shit for what I say, it comes with the territory, but to hold other people accountable for what I say? That's a few orders of magnitude more reprehensible. Unfortunately, there's not a damn thing I can do about it.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to just not be a dick. There's a reason the phrase "you'll catch more flies with honey than vinegar" exists. Facts may not care about feelings, but people should. Children are taught this, adults shouldn't have to be taught it too.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to just not be completely lacking in self control, moral scruple or reasonableness, but that doesn't stop people behaving like that, does it? I'm not a dick or being one, I'm not treating anyone like shit, I'm not trying to hurt people. All I'm doing is saying what I think about various things. Oh the humanity, the fucking horror. How bloody dare I be so sodding callous. You care more about my opinions than the dreadful behaviour of those reacting to it, which is exactly why you have a broken moral compass and will never understand me. Your priorities are backwards.

I never said I thought the reaction to what you said was proportional or justified. But I do think it was and is entirely possible to give your opinion without mocking anyone, even if you think they're idiots. The quickest way to lose someone is to be a dick about your opinions. I know conservatives believe PC culture is horrible, but my belief is that you can be PC and still be honest. You don't have to belittle or mock anyone to state your opinion. You didn't turn around and state your opinion more clearly until your joke got major backlash when you just as easily could've given that opinion the first time. I will agree, though, that both sides need to be more civil and trying to ruin you financially is taking things waaaaay too far. We'll get further with civil conversation than outraged screaming.

The people going apeshit are not reasonable people, they aren't people one can engage with in a civil discussion. I have no interest in trying to placate them. I'm not trying to win hearts and minds with my cartoons and jokes, I'm simply intending to express myself honestly and openly. If someone approaches me for a civil discussion on a topic I raise I generally engage with them on it. Ultimately, people don't change their minds based on cartoons and jokes anyway. If you look at the meteoric success of people like, say, Paul Joseph Watson, he is far more harsh than I am in his criticism and yet over one million people are subscribed to him and find his content very entertaining. Myself included. Not everybody wants super nice, happy bullshit. My expressing myself like a dick is irrelevant, people will either like it or not like it and I get around an equal number of people on both ends. So no, I have no intention of censoring myself or being bullied into it, to satisfy the delicate sensibilities of other people. Especially people who are perfectly happy to harass, lie, bully, intimidate and all the rest just to avoid engaging with an argument they dislike while still trying to shut someone else down. Nothing I am doing is immoral or unwise, I don't need to justify it or apologise for any of it. People have put the same argument you're making to me hundreds of times, it involves making up my motives for me and then telling me I'm doing it wrong. I'm doing what I want to do, that's all there is to it and people can make up their own minds on how they feel about it. Amusingly, there are far more people like yourself lecturing me on my supposedly improper conduct than there are people saying the same thing to those cowards doing despicable things. That tells me a lot about their priorities. In my opinion this is about people pretending to give a fuck about how I express myself because they don't like my opinions and want to influence the way I express them. Not going to happen.
