...what kind've meat would be available for butchering? I mean chicken usually comes to mind so......this is awkward.

Well he is a bird of prey so I guess eating chicken wouldn't be that out of the ordinary, but I imagined it being meat from land based herbivores (some fantasy variation of deer and sheep).
