Sort of a last minute entry, but one that should be place among the highest in this countdown; no it's not Jack Skellington, but another incarnation of the holiday of Halloween; it's Sam! You know, given Halloween's dual nature of being both fun and scary I like to think that both Jack and Sam are the representatives of the holiday, with Jack representing the more fun, playful side while Sam represents the much darker, macabre and true origins of the holiday... but I'm not about to start getting into head canons and theories or anything of that ilk!
While Trick 'r Treat is a bit of a cult film, it's always been one of my favorites. Having always been a fan of Tales from the Crypt and other horror anthology series', it was easy for me to fall in love with this film. If anything I just adore HOW purely drenched the movie is in the aesthetic of the holiday. It's something I can put in to immediately get me in the mood for Halloween... even if it's in April. It's kinda funny though. Though there are a lot of movies we associate with Halloween because they're horror, there aren't that many that are fully about Halloween! Hell, even the film series with that title, "Halloween" isn't as devoted to the holiday as this film and this was big reason I added in Sam, because I felt this year's countdown was a bit lacking in that department. Something to really get the spoopy vibes going, and who better to do that then Sam? (that and he's also easy to draw and so adorable it should be a crime!)
Well... it's nearly upon folks. Halloween is only a day away. How did October go by so fast. With All Hallows Eve almost upon us, I'd like to do a quick list of dishonorable mentions. This year was one of the hardest for me to rule out who would get in and where. There were just too many good choices and while I really didn't want to take them out, in the end there's only 31 days in October and some just had to go, but hey! There's always next year. Who knows if they'll get in another time. Just to name a few... So with Sam, the literal embodiment of Halloween only taking second place this year who is it that could take top billing? Who could possibly be more frightening, more terrifying, more sick and depraved to best him and take home the gold, getting the honorary title of representing Halloween? How can one represent Halloween better then one who's entire identity IS that? Nothing short of fear itself... but you'll have to wait till tomorrow to see~ until then, Happy Devil's Night!
