I felt like trying to draw with pen for a change, instead of pencil or a digital program where I could undo mistakes. I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed the challenge of drawing with real ink on paper. These are two of the pictures I'm most proud of, after a few initial practice sketches of their heads. The rest were an attempt at a comic page, that, regardless of mistakes, turned out looking rather nice... up until my pen died on me, a little over halfway down the page. I'll finish it before I post it, though, so you can bask in the radioactive glow of it's magnificence...!... while I get to work on the second page, and try to finish the scene. Not entirely confident with laying out comics so it might seem a little abrupt. Meh. I think It's really more of a storyboard, anyway, really. Get myself a new pen, and finish it off tomorrow and you can decide for yourselves.
For the time being, we have two of my main characters:
1: Thought I'd try and take a little influence from the red/white lego spaceminifig sitting on my desktop, for Astrobunny. The only thing that ended up changing were the shoulder pads. Taking a look at my pencil sketches... what do you think? Do the epaulettes do anything for the character design? Although, come to think of it, he might not always wear the same outfit while exploring the galaxy, anyway. Food for thought. Also, those metallic gold pens never look enough like gold. Although the silver I used for the rocket's contrails (or whatever) look quite nice on the actual paper. The effect is truly awe-inspiring. It's a shame you'll never be able to experience it for yourselves. 83
2: "Oh no! Our intrepid hero hears a call for help! Who is in dire peril, and will he arrive to save them in time?"
Meh, I dunno, was just foolin' around and doodling with pen. I like how it came out, though the pose and proportions look a little off to me. Ah well, such is the danger of drawing with pen, I suppose. At least this way I wasn't sitting there for hours agonising over the details. I did find out how annoying the ears were to position, though. Yikes. And to date, he still has no superpowers. XD
I hope you find these interesting. Feedback is always welcome and greatly appreciated. Perhaps you have some "words of wisdom" for drawing with pen...?
