U is for Unicorn.  The classic type of Europe, that is, not the rhinos of yesteryear.  And they still aren't horses.

I finally drew the transgendered unicorn two-spirit I've been noodling out for a while.  He or maybe she doesn't like her or perhaps his body.  He or she thinks it's lying, so is uncertain if he's a she or if she's really a he.  Even at 32, it can get her or him crying in self-loathing and frustration.  As much as we might wish otherwise, some people can't help but be emotional messes.

Very true.  While I don't know any transgendered personally in real life, I figure a busted body image wouldn't be unusual.  The frustration of being unable to settle on anything is bound to be intolerable sometimes.  (This isn't to say that all transgendered are like this, and I'm bound to refine this personality over time anyway.)

I will never understand or be comfortable around a transgendered transexual. It's an incurable mental state like homosexuality or such variation. Transexuality also involves surgical mutilation. Empathic feelings would keep me edgy in the company of such a person.

A surgeon preparing to turn a man into a woman, said that he wishes he could do a BRAIN transplant instead. The man has a magnificent male organ -and he wants to become a woman ! (When I was younger and still planned to marry, I included in my list of requirements that the girl be a real girl, not a transexual. ).

If you find the transgendered uncomfortable to be around, imagine how it must feel for them.  They have to live with the discomfort 24/7/365 unless they ever manage to come to terms with it.

Transgender probably has multiple causes.  Sometimes, they're physical, such as when someone is born with the wrong number of sex chromosomes or hormonal imbalances mess up their development.  Often, they seem to be more mental, like the person's programming insists he's supposed to be a girl, has to be a girl, must be a girl, despite the physical evidence to the contrary.  Some cultures, such as various American Indian tribes, recognized three genders, the two-spirit being the third.  Two-spirits could marry someone of the other genders and had duties and privileges of their own.

That doctor was wrong.  Certainly to the doctor, you, and me, whose psyches aren't screaming at us that we're women, surgery would be a stupid move, but we're not the patient.  For a man, it's impressive, but for a woman, it's a body horror.  He/she sees it as wrong, an ugly growth that's not supposed to be there.  For him/her, getting rid of it is like plastic surgery for a horrid disfigurement, a fix rather than a shame.

Personally, I just treat them as a person and don't care beyond that as long as they don't get too close or expect too much from me.  (To be fair, this goes for any gender.)
