It used to be a thing guys did to sit around and make up horrific sex acts and funny names for them, which invariably led to some poor girl somewhere being the victim of said sex act one day. Basically the pre-internet version of Urban Dictionary jokes.
So yeah, like Chucky said, probably started off as a joke... But at some point I'm sure some fellow getting laid on a beach somewhere gave in to the sudden, likely-alcohol-induced impulse to try it.

There has got to be a followup to this. maybe like the two of them coming back to the dorm covered in sand and Shemain walking funny..and we find out later they just covered themselves in sand to prank everyone! :D
