I remember my dad use to get on us about leaving magnifying glasses laying around where the sun could shine on them. He'd tell us that a magnifying glass left in the sun unattended could start a fire (of course it has to be the right distance away to lite something up). My dad use to also get onto us when we left sissors, a knife or other sharp object on a chair or sofa. That was because when my dad was growing up, a cousin of his sat on a pair of sissors left on a sofa and she had to get stitches on her butt.
