During Max's time at the Tail Hollow Orphanage in the Happytown district of Zootopia. Over the long, boring days of doing nothing but being doted on (or mostly ignored) by the matrons of the orphanage and being bullied by his fellow orphans, he would find an outlet of freedom in creating music. Being poor and having absolutely nothing of value to his name, he would sneak out during the day, find and gather trash alongside other implements of refuse that other mammals would merely dismiss as little value. Creating a drum set for himself, he would play in Sahara Square and earn what little money he could glean from the sympathy and admiration of passerbys -- Always aspiring to be greater than the circumstances given to him.
