Here, our models demonstrate just how simple it is to pull a vocal prosthetic, sometimes known colloquially as a "cheater's box." While it can be done in seconds by anyone with a blunted, hooked claw (or an equivalent tool), you should be cautious about doing so - boxes often tear during removal, and while removal is simple and replacement boxes only a few dollars, their placement requires a professional's assistance. Before removing the prosthetic, consider whether you will be able to have it replaced in a timely manner. Depending on scheduling constraints at your local veterinarian's office, it may be impossible to see such a non-emergency case for some time, leaving your pet inarticulate for quite a while.
