As this picture shows, on the first Sunday on the first Full Moon after the Summer Solstice (in the Northern Hemisphere), the Souther squirrel likes to gussy up her pet rocks so she can sling them at unwary passersby while dancing on the slumbering noggins of good little boys and girls.

Souther for 2011 fell on Sunday, July 17, this year, so I'm a week late.

That frilled collar and suit, it reminds me of something...

So the Souther Squirrel is not an entirely beneficent character, hmm?

I couldn't tell you what it the frilly dress with bow belt might remind you of, but my intention was to do something like those old time photos of a girl in her Sunday best while holding a beloved pet. So I end up with a squirrel girl in a dress holding her pet rock. Screwy, eh? :p

I'd say the Souther squirrel is no less beneficent than Santa Claus or Cupid. The first breaks and enters houses on Christmas Eve and nobody complains (usually), and the second chases people around so he can skewer them with arrows. The Souther squirrel is just being a typical squirrel. Besides, she only aims the candied nuts. She only startles folks with the chocolate rocks with near misses. Most of the time. :p

How you envisioned this is how I interpreted it to be. :)

Would make for an interesting story, though........ *nudge* ;) If Charles Schultz could have his Great Pumpkin, why not a Souther Squirrel? ;) (Odd for me to say that, as I'm a Harvestmoon kinda guy-- Was born on a Harvestmoon. ;) )

Considering I've made a story in poem form for why Norther came to be, it would only stand to reason that I should try to come up with something for Souther and Wester, though I haven't a clue what yet. Or I could come up with a story about Deidrei using rocks and nuts against some wandering vermin. While mostly naked.

Someone's going to get hurt, and it won't be the snarked off squirrel. :o
