Happy Souther 2011!
Happy Norther 2012!
'Twas the first Sunday after the first Full Moon after the Northern Hemisphere's Autumnal Equinox (October 16 this year). Believe it or not, I did get this one done on time, but, due to internet connection problems (no, the solution wasn't getting broadband), I'm somewhere around two-thirds of a month late posting it.

For this Wester, we bring you the Croquet hedgehog (Erinaceous europaeus dodgsonii), a curious subspecies of the European hedgehog that naturally comes in a variety of colors. Due to this hedgehog's naturally colorful quills and sturdy nature, English royalty bred them specifically for a more challenging game of croquet. Thanks to laws enacted in the past half century, the Croquet hedgehog has found a new and safer role as a popular pet with experienced hedgehog owners.

Happy (belated) Wester everyone!

...croquet hedgehogs, I would not have thought of that. Clever!

Thank you.  They're actually pretty friendly when they're not being whacked by flamingos.  They also come in a variety of colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.  One breeder was pretty excited about getting a brown Croquet hedgehog until tests showed it was actually an orphaned regular hedgehog.  There were also unsubstantiated reports of a plaid Croquet hedgehog in the colors of the McDuck tartan, but it's pretty much dismissed as a hoax.

Certainly! :p Hence the "dodgsonii".
