ENGLISH

Like every year, I do a Christmas picture in traditional media with my favorite Original Characters. Those who have followed me for some time surely have seen that each year I always submit a christmas pic around these dates since 2009. This pictures become a gift for all my friends, my family, my fans and people who like my work.

This scene is divided by who are my imaginary family and those who has became a real family for me, but I love them all alike.

Roni (the dog), Parinton and Nemorio (the pandas), Rocky (the feral raccoon who is entering the house running), Art (the raccoon), Biro (the fox) and Julio (the bear).

Each country has its own traditions, the best known are the North-American traditions, which involve Christmas tree, gifts, Santa Claus....; But an advantage of having my galleries on the internet is that everyone around the world, no matter where are you from, can see it, and as many of you probably know your own traditions for these holidays your country, in your culture, in your religion .. . I want to share few of traditions exists in my country.

Mexicans have some very special traditions, one of them are Las Posadas (which are not only celebrated only in Mexico, also in other Central American countries). From December 12th to 23th (in many places from 16th instead) there are celebrations, originally these are for religious reasons, and it's about a re-enactment of the search for a shtelter of Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem.
Those who take the role of pilgrims go from house to house knocking doors and singing verses of the traditional song, and the inhabitants of each house reply with a second verse, as well until arriving at the place where the party will be held, which is the place where the chorus of the song is sung "Enter holy pilgrims ... pilgrims ... receive this corner ..."

Once inside the place, a piñata is broken, which also has a traditional meaning regarding those dates (and they are not used to have diverse shapes as characters or objects, the traditional piñatas are a ball with 7 peaks, adorned of many colors, and are only used for these traditions, not at birthdays or any other celebrations).

How do you celebrate these holidays in your country?

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

(Traditional art, colored pencils.)

Thank you for sharing, the drawing makes it look like such a lovely old tradition. My family lived in Germany for two years so we add on a German tradition for St. Nicholas Day. You leave a  shoe out on the night of the 5th of December, and find small candies in it, the next morning.

OOOh That's cool!!!
A very similar tradition happens here in Mexico on January 6th, the wise men day. You leave a shoe behind the tree and you receive a gift by the wise men.

I'm a Texan who lives on the border with Mexico, and around here the Mexican Catholics have another fun tradition, the Matachines dancers. Based heavily on Indian forms, it's a performance to the Virgin Mary, to whom the month of December is dedicated. Many groups in town go around to people's homes -- if you can get on their schedule!-- and perform long elaborate group dances just to a drum-beat. Often the people who hired the Matachines will bring out all their Virgin Mary icons to amplify the blessings of the performance. Where I live there is an added feature: one performer who is dressed like a hairy devil, who just goes around and makes sure the performance go smoothly.
For my family for most all of my life, we have special shows/movies we watched this time of year, and special songs and performances we enjoyed on the radio. A local neighborhood is known for really covering their homes with lights and decorations, and we would always all get in the car and drive through there at-least once.
