On September 23, 1889, the gaming giant Nintendo is founded by Fusajiro Yamauchi. Initially producing hanafuda playing cards, Nintendo eventually grew to be one of the largest and most influential companies in the video game industry. With over 670 million hardware and 4 billion software units sold, Nintendo has left an enduring mark on not only the industry but also upon millions of gamers across the globe. Nintendo's game franchises range from the '"A" of Animal Crossing to the "Z" of Legend of Zelda, with others such as Star Fox, Fire Emblem, Mario, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, and Metroid filling out the alphabet in between
