Highway in Kenya
Oops...That One Went the Extra 250,000 Miles
These are two drawings I did back in the summer of 2013. A few days after I had drawn them, I put them in a 9 x 12 envelope and into a storage box. Last night was the first time I saw them since I had boxed them up over three years ago.
Several hours ago, I took the first photos that were ever taken of them so they can be uploaded.

Pic # 1 kind of reminds me of eastern Idaho and some of southwest Montana.

I see pic # 2 more like northeast New Mexico

Thank you.
I've driven on roads before that look like the ones in these pics...On a road like that, it feels like you keep going and going and going.

Looks old, worn and uneven.
When my folks used to go to the summer home, we would travel a long ribbon of concrete until we got to the Bear Mountain route. My father always took over just before that. While he was alive he never gave me the chance to drive that section, even tho I proved a good driver. Before my father passed on, we were going up so seldom that we were getting real estate offers from companies asking if we wanted to sell !
I never got to drive the whole route with mother. She had the upstate summer home sold the same year father died. I drove up a few times by myself since , just out of curiousity.
Just before that section began, there were signs. A stretch of blue concrete (slate in the mix?) for about 1 1/2 miles (now reduced to but 1/2 mile due to blacktop), etc.

Those concrete roads would make that >clip-clop clip-clop clip-clop< noise as a car ran along them.

In a sci-fi novel I read "THE MAN WHO AWOKE" a researcher builds a hibernation cell under his mansion and prepares to sleep for 5000 years. Norman Winters awakens to find a forest where his house once stood, (of course his butler is long dead and is just dust.)and the highway next to the property run-down and delapidated. Civilization has retrenched and contracted into colonies and settlements. Language is oddly altered.

The pic could well represent the once urban region of 5000 years future.

The cover of this book showed a much further future where Norman Winters is pursued by a giant walking city .Cities in that far distant future are locomotive and can be operated as vehicles.
