The fourth Goddess, hanging out. XD

OMG, this turned out so well, and I'm preparing my home PC to render the full thing for digital painting. I don't usually do 3D commissions (preferring to take donations in general instead) but if I did, they would probably be wallpaper fodder like this.

question, what 3D rendering software do you use? I don't know about the 3D rendering world much, but It's always good to be informed. ( ^ w ^).

You're going to give me the worst look, but I use Poser, Poser 8 to be specific. I've been using it since version 3 or so when I decided that Daz Studio can eat me.

The fact most Poser renders look like SHIT is because people are idiots. I can also import this into Cinema4D if I really want all the depth of field bells and whistles, but if I'm digitally painting it, it's not really necessary unless I'm animating shit.

However, on the development end, I use 3DSMax and Cinema4D for trying to get those game-ripped models NOT fubared or fucked up. Trying to rig a fan-version of a character is a major undertaking and involves me making custom textures and, in some cases, giving up and modelling things from scratch. Midna's helmet? Good to go.

Midna's hair? HOLY SHIT why did that take me 10 hours. I haven't shown it off but somewhere on my PC is a model of Midna's hair-arm-hand thingy that is a mostly functional hand that took me faaaar too long to make the bones for.

I can't even find my GameCube anymore so replaying the game is out of the question. I think this is the location in Zelda's flashback, if I remember right and if I ever get around to it, I want to make my own 3D fanart of Princess Zelda using Deco, since her and True Form Midna look enough alike anyway.

hmmm Poser huh, well I can't give you a weird look or anything, since personally I don't know much about working on 3D, save for some projects I did back when I was taking college programming, I think we once worked with a program called Blender or something.

but all in all It looks like 3D rendering is a bit complicated, but It's good to see, you have some experience in that field, It would be nice to see some quality 3D midna rendering made by you in the future.

Yeah, the one on the left is my "draft" preview (what I do RIGHT before I click advanced options on like Global/Indirect lighting, Raytracing, Ambient Occlusion, etc) and then I left for work for about 8 hours so the final thing ought to be done when I get home. If it's not, then I boot up my laptop and do 2D stuff while my main PC is busy crunching data for the final render. At 4000x2300 pixels, it's no mean feat: I need to buy more RAM for it too.

Anyway, 3D professionals sniff at beginner apps like Poser, Blender, and Daz Studio because they're aimed more toward newbies. But, I mean, hell: When I first scanned drawing, I was using OpenCanvas, a scanner, MS Paint, and PhotoImpact. It takes a while to learn a new medium, you know? You need lots of time to devote to it, and have to take it seriously.

At some point, I want to bite the bullet and do my own modeling. I've done it before, and I came away with two things: 1) I've not been trained and I need tons of tutorials for whatever software I'm working with and 2) my stuff all looks painfully beginner and I know I could draw it in Photoshop or by hand like 5x better than whatever shitty 3D model I just crapped out using Silo or Zbrush.

Basically, there is a TON of elitism between 2D and 3D. The artists usually only work in one medium and absolutely DETEST the other one. Once, during a stream like a year ago, I made the mistake of opening a 3D application and revealing the fact that the 2D character had a 3D equivalent I had composited together and everyone in the channel freaked out and started a huge flame war...

Pffft, it's a game model but they basically copypasta'd one goddess and rotated it around. SO LAZY.

Din and Nayru and Farore all have unique looks. Then again, this model was never meant to be held up to really intense scrutiny. It's just that when I load up the Hyrule Castle throne room, it's the first thing that I notice.

The other location rips I have that I really like are the Temple of Time and Zora's Domain.

Yeah, him, thanks. I am 99% sure I have his rip on my home PC.

The hard part will be converting a blank figure INTO him... argh. I'll be taking the game rips, carefully separating out the parts and attaching them to the human base, along with probably modding the base figure I'm using THEN custom texturing...

I've tried rigging the game ripped models, but the problem is that they are expressionless, lo-res, and they look like SHIT on high-res renders like I love to do. Plus, it takes a long fucking time to rig one realistically.

Okay, I'll add it to a superlong "to do" list. If I get around to it, you'll know because you'll see the 3D art popping up, haha.

So many people are like "I haven't even played Twilight Princess" and I'm like, "You don't really NEED to in order to like the fanart."
