First and foremost, this was intended as practice on getting shit done. This went from concept to pencil sketch to inks to markers on one piece of bristol (mostly so I could see how Copic and Prismacolor behaved on bristol without risking known-good lineart). In one sitting. Over the course of no more than three hours. I learned that my control over a brush tip is still iffy, and that bristol can suck down a full-sized copic until the tip is white. D: My secondary goal was to nail a face-on shot, which I came close to doing. I think it needs more shading, which I can't wrap my head around tonight.
It was also an attempt in forced perspective - imagine this was taken with a cameraphone held by hands resting on the counter he's pulling himself up to. I spent a lot of time thinking about how that wrist's bent, and … as far as I can tell, it's actually correct for an awkward position.
Also, that level of happiness cannot be healthy. :p
Maybe this is from the novel after the brainwashing scene?
