Na that's fine, the dialog doesn't explicitly explain it and does need some interpretation from earlier conversations. I wrote it like that to avoid filling the dialog with exposition.
Chani isn't infertile, she just thought that Viridi and Venkats couldn't have children as she'd never seen a couple together before. Desmond is sure it's possible for them to have hatchlings though as his grandmother is a Venkat. He's only saying that if it isn't possible he would still stay with her because it was what Chani feared would end their relationship.

Ohhh! okay thank you that makes sense now, my bad, it just really confused me, I hope they do have hatchlings, they'd be so cute lookin', but they're your characters and I'm not the one who judges their fates x3, the thing about dragons is they can breed with just about anything, it's ridiculous, lol you got kirin, half dragons and so many more draconic beasts that need parentage of a dragon to even exist, that's why I love the species so much, you're not as barred when making stories about them due to their high magical capability and them being adaptable to having mates of just about any species...
