Let's Play Buggerfall, Episode 5

Episode 5, "Fill it with naked Kajiits" (See how much easier it is to pull a naughty quote from my own commentary?)

Apparently, someone in Daggerfall Castle knows Karnarath's in-game stats too well, and has determined that he's not strong enough to continue the search for the letter ">=( that.. never... arrived", so he runs off to join the Mages' Guild. After some... rather lucrative guard duty, and a quick errand, Karnarath earns his first promotion. YAY! ^_^ Oh, and he also decides he wants a daedra-summoning chamber... if only...

For those who've played Daggerfall and can't seem to get promoted in guilds, here's the criteria.
1. gain 10 reputation points with the guild through quests.
2. one of the guild's "valued skills" has to be raised by 8 points, and another skill by 4 points. somewhere around 96 and 48 for the max rank.
3. 28 days must have passed since your last promotion or joining.

Valued skills for the mages' guild are obviously the different schools of magic, but the other guilds aren't nearly as obvious. The instruction book for Daggerfall doesn't mention ANY of these criteria. You get 5 rep points per completed quest, lose I think 3 per failed quest, and every month your rep depreciates by 1 point. If your rep falls below 0, you're booted out.

One awesome thing about Daggerfall guilds though is that promotions actually MEAN something, while Oblivion guild promotions are just part of a fixed flow of events... As you rise in rank, you also rise in privileges. For the Mages' guild, I'm shooting for item enchantment. Becoming Archmage would grant me exclusive rights to the teleportation service, though that's not quite as useful as it sounds.

SO! When it comes to soul gems, I have two options. I can either join the Dark Brotherhood, or one of three temples that sell them. I can join a temple of only one deity, but those three seem to all offer the same services, and none of the others offer anything I particularly want. A high rank in the Dark Brotherhood has the advantage of if I ever happen to be arrested, there's a chance the Brotherhood will threaten the judge and I'll be set free.

*edit* Ah yes, and after watching the video back a second time, I just noticed that the Kingsley Residence WAS marked on the map, I just scrolled past it without noticing. Whoops

Mmmm, Khajiits. Khajiits and Argonians, yum.

A pretty good episode, I think. Buggerfall, indeed. But hey, progress. Sleep being three points above your max was a hell of a tease, too. I think Daggerfall's rebelling against you.

I could decrease the cost of that spell by training whatever school of magic it belongs too, and I should probably do it because that would make for an extremely easy quest. There's also a quest which uses open, which won't be a problem.
And yesh, I wants me a daedra summoning chamber filled with a harem of Kajiit cubs =9
