Server Payment Poll

Hi all,

An update on our direct payment options and a quick survey for our supporters after Swaggerdile had to sadly close its doors.

We have been looking into direct payment methods with some success, though many of the official companies like Mastercard have been offering a 15% take for each transaction, which we would like to avoid, especially with us not being given many assurances by them about account safety or their 18+ content guidelines.

But, it looks like we have found an excellent way to handle direct payments through e-currencies!

Using these 'Crypto-currencies' solves a lot of our issues with either an installed software or a website version that quickly and effectively handles currency conversion and a virtual wallet that can be used for many different virtual currencies (The option we have works with DogeCoin, Dash, BlackCoin, ReddCoin, Monero, ZCash and many more, not BitCoin at the minute).

Looking into it, it is as simple as registering for one of these virtual wallets, just like signing up for an email address or Paypal, with your card details, and then everything is handled on their end with direct transfers to our e-wallet from yours inside of the crypto-currency site without having to go through all the complications we've been having with physical banks and US/EU trade regulations (the reason Swaggerdile went down was related to these complications with being a global money handler).

The most important factors for us are that these virtual currencies mean a secure company with state-of-the-art encryption tech handling your virtual balance and a loss of only around 2% for transaction fees, which is less than working through Patreon especially to then get our money out of Paypal.
And, more importantly, this software/website is just a payment system, so they don't have the same temperamental attitude to furry artwork or adult content that Patreon has.

As a reminder, we won't be discontinuing Patreon, for now, but we've bumped heads a few times with the staff on their refund policies and content guidelines and would really like to prioritize a method of income that can't be so easily shut off just for content disputes or the rare user playing the system. Because of the temperamental service, we will likely be implementing a delay on releases through Patreon when things are more secure - because they cannot guarantee not refunding payments, there will likely be a 'Quarantine Zone' on our server for new Patreon supporters who would still get 14 pages a month of new content beyond that on the free site, but not the most RECENT content or the whole comic zip until their payments have been guaranteed as secure after a few months.

Whilst we test this system out, we had a quick poll to check your reception to this new method, to make sure our ideas here line up with what you all want!

The system takes a few minutes to set up, and will likely involve sending a payment each month, how do we feel about using E-currencies?

a) I'd be willing to switch to an E-currency method, the extra time to install or invoice is fine.
b) I would prefer a direct card method like Swaggerdile, a 15% increase in cost would be fine.
c) I'd still prefer to use Patreon or something that uses Paypal, even if it means delays in content.

I personally avoid those e-coin things like the plague, and I imagine most people won't even have it, so it would limit your potential customers. Probably best to stick with paypal like everyone else does. Just don't leave your money in it.

It isn't that hard to set up with this e-wallet site we found, but, yep - the poll is entirely to gauge opinions there :)

Keeping our money in paypal isn't the issue. A new spate of stupid fraud stuff on Patreon is the issue. We had a supporter use Patreon to force us to refund over 6 months of payments, despite that we proved the supporter used our website to get the paid content and even contacted us about a loss of password, Patreon wrote to us that Mastercard told them to refund it due to a fraud claim (maybe they used a friend or family's card?) and it didn't even matter if they'd "bought" content from us, we still had to give the money back.

It means a lot of content creators on the site are now insanely wary of high-paying clients, because $40 a month could suddenly mean someone took all your content, maybe won raffles for art or other high-tier rewards, funded a bunch of extra comic pages (our team gets paid by percentage, so all of us got paid to do more work) and then suddenly we have to foot a $250 bill out of our monthly earnings because the person managed to convince Mastercard to make a claim against Patreon.

Yea first time I heard of someone having to deal with chargebacks on patreon. Most I hear are starting to activate that feature where they pay when they signup now to try and deal with the fraud. Unfortunately I don't think any method is going to be totally trouble free. Hope you find the one thats the least problem and works for the most people. Good luck :)

P.S. could also look into e-checks. Not really sure how they work on the receiving end, but might be another option for you.

option a.
Just make sure there's no hidden fees. The customer might have to pay a markup to buy the cryptocurrency.

a) for me.  I have been thinking of getting one of the wallets setup for a few weeks now.  I agree with you for the reliability of actually getting paid. Now I'll actually have to do it. Life has had me busy for the previous months.

Thank you for the comics too.
