Windows 10

Wow, can W10 Home users really REALLY not disable or delay Windows Updates? =O

My Wacom Mobilestudio Pro came with W10 Pro. Lucky me, I guess?

Now, the MobileStudio Pro is the single greatest drawing experience of my life, I can't get over it! Especially now that I have acquired a stand for it, making it a much more convenient device.

Windows Updates... WIIINDOOOOOOWWWs!11!!11!!!!1!!!!!!!!11111111111 D8<

So... regrettably, there is a problem with my rather expensive new tablet; that problem is Windows.

SPECIFICALLY a little component associated with Windows update called "Update Orchestrator Service for Windows Update". There can be no doubt. The 25% CPU being used in the Task Manager that disappeared when that specific item was Stopped leaves no doubt. The cycle of 25% CPU being used and then dropped and then used again while I watch the miserbaly uninformative Update page for Windows 10, also leaves no doubt AT ALL.

The problem. the PROBLEM was that I was noticing a bit of minor freezing of the cursor for a few seconds when drawing or using the touch screen. The fans tend to whirr into action quite a lot when the CPU is being used. Which seems to be CONSTANTLY because of Windows FUCKING Update. You know, even when there ARE NO UPDATES AVAILABLE!? What?!

Now, granted, it is a new device, so there MIGHT be a backlog of updates, but fuck. If my research tells me that Home users have no option to disable the updates, and they (really, I mean all of us) are being used as, essentially, the guinea pigs before rolling out the updates to businesses? Wtf Windows? That's an insult to everyone using your software. If it was optional, there would still be more than enough users updating constantly for your testing purposes. Don't dick people around.

Deferring updates. No option to choose how long to defer them, though... so, I'm guessing the answer is probably not very long? Probably.

I wasn't impressed with Windows 10 all that much when they rolled out the free upgrade, myself, so I uninstalled it and my main PC is still running Windows 7.

Hopefully deferring the updates fixes this little teeny weeny CPU issue... damn Windows... you have no idea how annoying it is to have the entire screen freeze up when you're trying to draw... unless you do. Oh, what's that? is it only a few seconds? Oh, well, in that case... it's only about as annoying as a BROKEN FUCKING RECORD! YOu know! When a track is skipping... or a youtube video or a stream is buffering too frequently that you only get... a... few... words... like... ... this... at... a... t... i... ime...!

Pssst. Open Start menu, type Services and hit Enter. This should open the Services dialog window. Scroll down to Windows Update at the very bottom and double-click it to enter its Properties window. Under Startup type, select Disabled. Apply, Okay, then reboot. This should stop it from working in the background entirely. You may have to stop the process first in the Task Manager before it will let you, but I've had mine disabled for a very long time now. Nearly a year, in fact. I don't even have the "Anniversary Update" yet. When you want to manually update Windows, you'll have to change the Startup type back to Automatic and reboot again.
