Americans, Do It.

posted a Journal, and I'm relaying it to you now to emphasize the importance of the task:

" I'm not usually this naked about this sort of thing, but the US Congress greased the wheels to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. Among the things they voted to rip out was the Medicaid expansion.

This affects me personally.

has an onset disease that's kept at bay by the fact that we can currently keep him on his medicine. If they take that away, there will be absolutely no way we can afford to do it. I'm not going to mince words: This will make his life shorter.

If you live in the US and have a heart, please call your local representative at 866-426-2631 and tell them to keep the parts of the ACA that help people- like the Medicaid expansion. All you have to do is enter your zipcode and it'll transfer you straight to your local rep. Please do this. Don't make excuses, don't say you'll do it, do it. If you never do anything for me, please do this.

EDIT: If the number's not working for you, you can get your rep's number here: http://www.whoismyrepresentative.com/

As a Canadian with access to healthcare provided by the government and paid for by taxes, I can't stress enough how much I believe that all of you should be receiving the same opportunities I do. If I was unable to at several points in my life, I wouldn't be here right now telling you that it's so, so, so important that sick people get treated, no matter how rich or how poor they may be.

It's tough, because your insurance system is a business - a business that literally deals in human well-being and lives at the cost of money. I believe your system is at odds with these two thigns, where money is becoming more important than lives.

If that sounds wrong to you, call your representative and make it known that you do not want Affordable healthcare (who can argue with a name like that?) to be abolished.

I know that 'gonna move to Canada' is just a joke, but does anyone know how soon healthcare would kick in for immigrants?  Depending on how much money is involved, it might actually be an option.

I would hope that my country allows people to move to it so that they can get the medicare they need to live. I have no idea how long it kicks in, it's worth looking up though if it is ever a serious consideration.

You have my blessing for finding that speech, I've been having some hard time getting medicaid down south and I needed some sense of motivation, I'm hoping for a chance for health insurance without having to go through these hassles.

What other ways can we give governments more power?
