demotivation

TL;DR : someone stole my art and posted it on u18chan. it was removed later
but this event killed my motivation to draw.

If you're asking yourself why there hasn't been a new set this month, let me clarify, since not that many of you seem to have heared of it. cause ya know...
there is a reason for why i have no motivation to draw whatsoever.

someday on december 2016, somebody on u18chan asked if someone had any
of my sets. a nice person on inkbunny actually pointed that out to me and i took
the time to anser that one guy he could buy my stuff for really cheap. i explained
in a friendly fashion how i put time and effort into this stuff and how i'm trying to
make a living out of it.

i tried to contact the site owner or administrator but there was absolutely no contact information.

on the 26th of dec. some guy then posted every single picture of every set i have
done so far. i tried to find help through the integrated chat and promptly found an admin, though they weren't abele to remove the post or even the whole topic, because
of.... reasons...
suffice to say: the admins weren't able to do anything on that board for 4 days.
the topic was removed, but the damage was done.

i have no idea how many people got my stuff for free and some of them might
actually repost them somewhere else because, ya know... if you got something for
free, you don't care if you post it for free elsewhere.

i'm not even sure how the future will be. if people keep posting my art for free, after i released it,
i will have no other option than stop drawing this kinda stuff.
there'll be just the regular 1 or 2 pictures every second month aside from
the commissions...

so yeah, i hope you understand how i feel.
people grabbing free art, not caring if it ruins the artist; it was pretty depressing.
thanks for your patience

Sorry to hear this, Necro. Hope this doesn't happen again, and that karma catches up to the perpetrator and sinks her teeth in deep.
I'll be trying to put some money together this year and purchase some of your sets, and I'm sure that some of your other fans will no doubt do the same. You have my support and admiration, and I look forward to all of your future art.

This.... kind of thing is why I generally stick to commissions.. Or Patreon funding.

Sad reality is that people are jerks and piracy does exist, it's something the print, music and game industry have been combating since even before the internet. x-x

Since the beginning of the internet, that I have watched for well over 25 years, Punishing the user base has never made pirates "think twice" or reduce their activity.

Stop producing if you no longer wish to produce. If you've lost your motivation, etc. You're not our art slave, and the value of your life is not dependent on your creativity. Do what you need to do to feel better.

But if your motivation is punishment in any way, shape or form, It is regretfully misplaced.

Aw damn necro :(

I doubt anyone that downloaded it for free would have been a customer anyway. I hope it doesn't effect your sales too much.

I'm not too sure about all of them, but yes, many of the people hunting for free downloads would never spend a dollar on art. Part of the entitlement culture.

But paying for a picture set just for my own viewing pleasure feels a bit ... consumerist. Personally I part with my money much more willingly if it's towards a commission or a crowd-funded picture series that will be public -- and I know of a few of those that have been funded to the tune of more than a thousand dollars. If you (Necro) were to do one that suited my particular interests I'd certainly contribute.

Patreon is the same idea, more or less, especially when the art is made public after a while -- the more money the artist gets, the more art there'll be in the world of the kind I like.

Sorry to hear it, that really sucks because with niche fetish art you can't really make it up with volume. :-/ Patreon or something similar would probably work better for long-term funding, like people suggest, because fighting against copyright infringement is endless and there are always places which won't be interested in taking things down.

If it makes you feel better, I actively chose to buy you art rather than receive it for free. I had a few friends who are fans of your art and they did offer me your set. However, despite them essentially giving me it, I still chose to pay you, because I know how much this means to you. I think what you do on the internet is some reflection on what kind of person you truly are and I do consider myself a very moral and social justice person. I would happily pay money to an artist regardless whether its freely available because I feel better about myself when I know I'm supporting someone else. If I have the money to spare, there's no excuse for stealing. If I didn't have the money, as was the case some years ago, then I used to trawl places like u18chan trying to find those pay-per-view comics for free. I did indeed do that before, though now I've migrated to Patreon to instead support a small number of artists whose art I genuinely enjoy.

In some way sharing art is stealing revenue from the owner, but in some ways, it’s also free advertising, and whilst I would never condone stealing others art for free. I do have to admit, I found a lot of the artists I now support on Patreon through the watermarks on their artwork on art I obtained for free on various image forums. It’s no lie that people tend to share what they believe is 'the good stuff' and generally in that respect it is a compliment if a lot of people like your work in the sense they share it and expand its audience. But it’s like anything, there's positives and negatives, and which ends up winning depends more on the moral compasses of those people, which sadly, currently, seems to point increasingly the wrong way...

On a final note, I still do love your artwork, you are very skilled, very detailed, and very friendly too, I still hope to do business with you at some point in the future, and I'll keep buying your sets if you keep making them! Take care pal, if you want to talk, poke me on Skype or something. It’s nice to just talk to people, that’s a nice thing people don't tend to do anymore either.

yes, it might be seen as a compliment when people share my art and i usually do view it like that.
but there is so much free art in my gallery and i'm still creating free content. i don't understand why
people are sharing the paid stuff too!
is my free art not enough?... :(

yes, it helps to know there are a few people out there who are really supporting my work no matter what
and this, right now, is basically the only thing that gives me hope to continue my work.
