Terror of the... low seas?

I guess comparing No Man's Sky to other games, and movies, in order to describe it is inevitable. So I've watched a couple of videos, and people have mentioned things like The Martian and Subnautica... so I'd only heard Subnautica mentioned here and there, and never bothered to look it up because the title didn't really appeal to me...

Finally fed-up by the amount of No Man's Sky players comparing it to Subnautica, I just went ahead and looked it up... and was so excited and impressed and bought it on steam and... and...

I think... now I may know why I wasn't interested in subnautica. O_o

By Satan's warty, pustule-covered left testicle, I've never been so creeped out in a video game before.

Gah!

I don't think I like being underwater... No. Nooooope. O_o

Maybe jumping into Survival mode with no idea what to do or expect was a bit too much, but... well... by comparison to what I've been watching of No Man's Sky? Yeah, it feels very different to Subnautica.

BUT, that's just my own opinion, having not actually played No Man's Sky yet because it isn't unlocked for PC yet (curses!), but... it's like comparing every game with ingredients to craft ANYTHING to any other game that uses any sort of resources to craft anything... you know... forget Minecraft, and think like the original Age of Empires? Maybe Starcraft 1? What WAS the first video game to introduce the idea of collecting resources to make something? Rhetorical question.

Maybe I'm just ranting because there just seems to be something absolutely terrifying about the unknown when you're underwater, and while the reality of being stranded in outer space is just as terrifying... No Man's Sky doesn't seem to throw you into quite so dire a situation?

Maybe it's the idea that we know all this space travel stuff is just a fantasy (at least for now) whereas sea creatures really REALLY are bat shit fucking insanely bizarre and alien in the real world that it's very disconcerting to be reminded of that in a survival game.
