Scary Update Special - Humans, Photos, Portal, New Banner

Boo! Happy Halloween!

We have tricks AND treats to list this week.

Feature Updates and Fixes

* Elapsed times in the Notices Portal now update dynamically without page reload (eg: where it says times like 1 hour ago.. those now tick over while you stare at them).

* Improved display of streams in the Portal. Better listing of start and end times. Statuses (Coming soon, live, ended), time until stream start and time until stream end are all updated dynamically without page reload.

* Comments on your posts (submissions or journals) but that aren't TO YOU are now clearly marked, so you can tell them apart at a glance. A little message and icon appears on the comment to indicate it's to someone else, but was posted on a submission or journal you own.

* New Banner by

!
https://inkbunny.net/submissionview.php?id=23872 Mouseover the site banner to change between all available versions.

* “Remove on View” in the Notices Portal is disabled for now. We want to fix some problems people were having and improve the way it works. There wasn't time before this update is due.

* Advertise Stream now remembers the last stream title and URL you entered so long as you maintain your current login session.

* The Acceptable Content Policy has been moved to the Wiki: http://wiki.inkbunny.net/ACP

* We have made it clearer on sales settings page that file TYPE is important as well as pixel count for print sizes to be enabled. The old red error message was confusing, saying only pixels mattered.

* Optimised: We moved all the embedded Javascript in the Notices Portal to its own file. That improves page load times and bandwidth usage.

* Added a Twitter link on the Maintenance mode screen. It takes you to our Twitter account https://twitter.com/inkbunny_news to get site updates if Inkbunny is offline.

* The FA BBCode tag now supports “^”, “~” and “.” characters which can appear in FA account names.

Changes to the Acceptable Content Policy (ACP)

There have been changes to our Acceptable Content Policy (ACP), so it is important to read these!

The full ACP can be read here http://wiki.inkbunny.net/ACP

We have very good reasons for our content rules. They have nothing to do with what we consider to be "art" or what we do or don't like to see in artwork.

Our ACP decisions are based on the fact we have some quite unique and difficult commercial and political issues to consider. Many of the restrictions are beyond our control at this time.

As you can see by the following changes, we want to move towards having as few restrictions as possible.

If we feel certain types of off-topic uploads are overwhelming the site, we may change the rules accordingly, but we do not foresee it being a problem right now.

Humans

Human characters are now permitted in artwork, however they must not appear in sexual situations and must not show genitals or sexual arousal.

Human characters are permitted in stories only so long as they are not involved in sexual situations of any kind.

Characters that are essentially human (pixies, faeries, elves, orcs, trolls, etc) or just have ears/tails or other superficial animal features applied are considered human for this rule.

Photos

Photographs are now permitted on Inkbunny to allow you to show off your physical artistic creations. So that means fursuits, sculptures, models, jewelry, etc made by you or made for you are okay to photograph and post on Inkbunny.

Photography as a background or secondary part of an artwork has always been allowed. Photographs as icons and thumbnails are also allowed.

Inkbunny is not to be used for displaying general photography. There are lots of great sites that specialize in photography as an artform or for event and personal photos. We would love to see you link to those in journals!

With that in mind, please ensure any photography you upload to Inkbunny meets these conditions:

    * It must be a photo of something created by you or for you (eg: fursuits, sculptures, jewelry, clothing, etc) OR the photo comprises a secondary component of an artwork (eg: A digital artwork with a photograph of scenery used as the background).

    * General photography of people, places, events, etc is not permitted unless it meets the previous rule (eg: your fursuit at a convention would be fine).

    * Please limit photographs of the same item (eg: the same fursuit, jewelry, etc) to a maximum of three or so images. We want to allow photography so you can show off your physical artistic creations, but we don't want the site flooded.

    * It must not show nudity, sexual activity, or arousal of actual people or actual animals. Obviously the nudity thing doesn't apply to animals. Dogs wearing pants would be cute, but silly.

    * Photographs containing actual animals should not focus unduly on their genitals.

    * It must not show actual body fluids, waste, blood, gore or death, or allude to sexual activities or illegal activities.

    * Photographs that have been traced or have had filters or effects applied to make them look like artwork will still have these rules applied to them.

Live Video

Live Video is now permitted on Inkbunny, but it must follow all the rules outlined here.

If it contains live action then it must follow all the same rules contained in "Photography" above. It is for showing off your creations or things created for you (fursuits, etc). We do not allow general event/personal videos at this time.

Thank you everyone for your understanding and patience with these changes!

This is great news!...sort of...I mean I have no use for video or photos but I can upload my human versions of my characters too!

Quick Question:

My fursuit has bits. Can I post pics of them?

Otherwise... I must quote Borat for the correct level of excitement here:

Very Nice!

Good question! Let me work it out and I'll update the policy.

Ugh.
The whole photography thing is going to end up being a nightmare as is the human stuff.
That was one of the things I especially liked about the site was it was 'furry' and that its goal was pretty selfevident, to provide a place to present your creative output or creative output related to you.

Noooooot too happy about the photography thing. I'm sure your heart was in the right place when you decided that, but FA has proven people see 'photos are allowed' and suddenly think people want to see pictures of their cats and stomach and disgusting dirty bedrooms and crap. It's just so much more effective to disallow photos entirely rather than trying to sift through them to find the ones breaking the rules, and they do tend to clutter the site. I hope you'll reconsider allowing photos, people (or perhaps just furries) aren't responsible enough for it.

That said, I'm glad about the human thing. And since I don't draw porn, the restrictions won't affect me.

I bet Starling will add a way for people to block photography or something. =3

I suppose that would be better than nothing, but I still don't think it's a good idea... they would still be using resources (and people aren't good about compressing/resizing their crappy photos) that could be used for art. There are so many photography sites, I don't see why it needs to be on here, too.

Well if people stick to the rules at all then it shouldn't be too bad. If they don't... well that's what we have mods for, right? =3

resources are not consumed very rapidly by having files sit on the server not being sent to clients - if the users block photography, they will minimize the resources consumed by ill-submitted photos to be completely negligible

also, you can report such photos and the administration will likely warn the user that their silly random crap doesn't fly. they keep doing it, and they get banned; not much to worry about

by the time inkbunny becomes large enough for the "wasted resources" to be an issue, the rules won't matter. it'll turn into furaffinity in terms of the completely inconsiderate user base and they'll submit what they damn well feel like regardless of the rules

Is FA really that problematic?

FurAffinity is a broken husk of a functional site whose user base is 99% 8yo autistic sonic fans; that's about all i can say
Kargrash

That's really harsh I like FA more than IB despite what people say about it. The only reason I made an account here was to follow two artists from FA and sadly its people that share your outlook that are pushing me away.
devilishimmorality

There's nothing harsh about it.

FurAffinity is disgustingly inferior in every single regard to any other art site except SheezyArt and has absolutely no excuse for it. It is complete trash, has been trash since it started, and will always be trash.

If you're going to stay on FurAffinity, that is your right and I will not request otherwise; but I've put up with it for quite long enough.

Really I'd say its better than DA which I'm a member of as well I've used both and FA was better also used both this site and FA and FA was just better for posting I don't see how its inferior in any way also its much more social site. this place to me feels like if you don't have art to show then GTFO I don't get that feeling at FA or DA for that matter.

But to each their own I suppose.

Oh foo.  I was hoping this meant I could post my homoerotic D&D modules on IB.  Foo. Stupid obscenity laws. >.<

this is superb! One of the reasons that I was shying away from inkbunny for awhile was because of the human issue. It occurred to me that a -lot- of my projects are human-centric nowadays (due in part to the simple fact that some stories should not be told with talking animals)- and knowing that they weren't allowed on the site. . . Turned me off a bit.

Love the guidelines on the photography.  The edited human rule is kind of silly to me though.  I guess you guys want to have a work around for posting humans but not having anything to do with bestiality.
Zeikcied
13 years, 5 months ago
What if humans appear in the background (or in a supporting role) of an otherwise furry drawing where some of the furries are doing naughty things?  The humans themselves aren't involved in anything sexual, but the furries are.

Whilst I ain't gonna say YAY or NAY on these features just yet (gotta give them a chance eh!) can I suggest we now have a 'report' button on actual artworks as ArtSpots does? People do wanna help keep the galleries tidy, but if they don't know how or can't be bothered typing out a ticket and posting links, then things will slip *shrugs*

For example, I have 'mature filter' currently turned on, yet at least once a day I see something with a huge penis leaking everywhere. YUMMY ._. Now nobody wants to recieve or write a ticket every time they see summat, so would it be easier all round if there was just a 'flag for mod' button, then you guys do a 'yes/no' kinda thing?
Again, not sure how it works, but ArtSpots is a surprisingly good example! ^^;

"No humans" kept me from joining earlier, since although I draw furry I don't restrict myself to only furry.
I don't draw much porn, but I do draw naked girls.  So, no genitals, understood, not a big problem.  But what about some T&A?  Some human boobies ok if it's not in a sexual/porno context?
Inkbunny
13 years, 4 months ago
Hi! It's only human genitals that are the issue. :P

I don't understand the restriction on human porn at all. Can someone explain how drawings of adult human porn are more offensive than drawings of animal child porn?
GreenReaper
10 years, 4 months ago
It's not whether they're offensive, it's whether they're illegal. Animals do not appear to be persons under the law (that's why you can kill and eat them without it being murder), and so depictions of them do not count for the laws regarding child sexual abuse, bestiality, etc.
Shadowfire
13 years, 4 months ago
I have to say I'm confused by the restrictions on humans. I haven't seen other sites that allow adult material disallow that.

Also there is (obviously) stuff here that's a little more of a legal worry than that.
FriskyWoods
13 years, 3 months ago
I don't have a problem with that.  This is a furry site, intended for furry characters.  I think the decision to disallow human porn was intended to protect InkBunny from some of the idiotic thought crime laws in western countries, but I'd be just as happy if human characters weren't allowed at all.  Coming here for that kind of art is like ordering a hamburger at a Chinese restaurant.

I've a question about this one, my furs in my up coming comic - REACTOR- are very human like, I also have monkey that looks human, why? Because of the fact that they are not from earth and live on a high tech planet: Tandorla. Aliens are also on this planet. Would my monkey character also as well as aliens [like from mass effect or star wars] be discarded on the line of sexual subjects? I find that to be a bit unreasonable, just like orcs and elves not being able to displayed on the subject of sexuality, what about all the world or war craft fans?

From my understanding, if it doesn't have muzzle it can't be posted.
