Inkbunny is turning 3! We've grown up in leaps and bounds from our early days. We have a thriving community that is fun to be a part of, and that is growing rapidly. I think it's something we can all be proud of.
Thanks to everyone who is a regular visitor or contributor to the site. Without you, of course we wouldn't exist. Thanks also to our Sponsors, past and present. The operating costs for our site are covered entirely by donations and the community has always been there to support the site with much needed cash.
What does the future hold for Inkbunny?
It's early days now, but we can confirm that work is under way on Inkbunny v2.0! Or more correctly, work is under way on a new art/social site engine we are creating that will be open source, which the new Inkbunny site will use.
We want to move to an open source model to get the community involved in extending the capabilities of the site, and so that anyone can easily create their own art/social site.
To do this we are creating the new site engine from the ground up. It will have all the features that people like from Inkbunny v1.0, but will use an established web framework, will have a new and improved interface and will launch with a bunch of new features we've always wanted to see added to the site.
Please note that right now we are in the planning and groundwork phase. We will let everyone know when we are ready for volunteers to join the project. For now we aren't taking offers, but we will gratefully accept and consider all applications at a later date when we ask for them.
More details will be announced in the near future!
T-shirt design competition
To celebrate Inkbunny's 3rd birthday, we are holding a t-shirt design competition!
We are looking for bold and distinctive designs that community members can wear proudly to show their support for Inkbunny. It can be anything you like, as long as it somehow promotes Inkbunny or is connected to the site/community in some way. Let your imagination run wild!
The top 5 designs will be chosen by our moderators, and those winning designs will be put up for sale on our store on RedBubble.
Winners will be given a free shirt with their design on it, plus free shipping to get the shirt to them. They will also have the people's ovation and fame forever!
Profits from sales of the shirts on our RedBubble store will go towards site operating costs in to the future.
Please keep content in the General to Mature rated range. Nothing that would have to be tagged "Adult" under the Inkbunny site rules, please. We just can't sell adult work on RedBubble (and it wouldn't be a popular choice to buy and wear publicly, either!).
The deadline for submissions is 11pm Friday 3rd of May 2013 CEST (Amsterdam) which is 2pm Friday 3rd of May 2013 PST (Los Angeles). So you have one month! Winners will be announced a week later.
Important! Submitted images need to be 3200 (height) x 2400 (width) pixels in size, 8-bit, with a transparent background in RGB format as a PNG file. DO NOT ROTATE THESE DIMENSIONS. It has to be exactly that width and height (but you can draw smaller within that area, and you can make a landscape orientation image if it fits within that portrait shaped area). For more details about RedBubble's tee shirt design technical requirements, see http://redbubble.com/teehelp.
Also important! To submit a shirt as a competition entry, upload the design as a Submission to Inkbunny, and tag it with the keyword "comp2013". You can just upload a preview version of your design at lower res, but make sure you create the original with the high res requirements listed above. If you win, then we will ask for the full resolution image.
Conditions: You can submit as many designs as you like, but we will only choose a maximum of one winning design per person. You can submit designs, and then make changes to those designs before the deadline. By submitting designs as part of this competition, you agree that if your image is chosen as one of the five winners, then we can use it as a design on shirts that we sell, and that all profits from those sales will be donated to Inkbunny to help pay for site operating costs. You retain copyright and all other rights to your image. If we want to use the image for any other purpose, we'll discuss it with you and get your permission first.
Good luck, everyone!
IB
Update:No adult content in the shirt entries please! Suggestive, sexy and M-rated is fine. And of course G-Rated is fine too. But please don't enter anything you'd have to tag "Adult" on Inkbunny. We just can't sell adult work on RedBubble (and it wouldn't be a popular choice to buy and wear publicly, either!).
Update 2:T-shirt designs can be anything you like, as long as it somehow promotes Inkbunny or is connected to the site/community in some way.
I remember back when user pages weren't inkbunny.net/username (instead it was user_id=0). Back when we didn't even have a PM system, and there weren't even plans for one. So many small things that most people would take for granted. Yes, this was in the closed beta when the site was still very much a work-in-progress, but it's still cool to see how much has changed.
Happy Birthday IB! I remember back when user pages weren't inkbunny.net/username (instead it was us
Oh, well-- That leaves me out, since I'm a writer, (mostly infrared) photographer and audio-soundscape experimenter... Although I took art classes when I was younger, I just don't have the skills to even do basic drawing... :(
At least I gave you a heads-up on the 3rd birthday... :)
I wish the best of luck to all contestants, however! :)

I apologize if I skimmed over too quickly and didn't notice this question was asked, but in regards to the contest what does "8-bit" mean? I'm eager to get thinking of designs, but I want all my ducks in a row first.
Thank-you so much :3

Only way that starling won't be is if the site goes under....which does not look all that likely, given the latest donation drive, and how cheap he got the server & connection for... :)

The idea of a social network concerns me a little, specially for artists that arent THAT social, as long as Inkbunny keeps it goals and prevents any unwanted rules i guess things should be ok

Very excited over 2.0, I remember Starling talking about it like 2 years ago. I always thought it was very generous for anyone to do stuff under an open source license, so kudos for that. I wonder how many people will use the framework and how many new sites will spawn after the release. Time will tell. =3
My tenure counter switched to 3 years just recently as well, has it really been that long already? Overall it's been a very smooth (especially up-time) and drastically less drama than other sites. =3 Big shout-out to the staff for doing what they do.

I think it's a moot point for me to enter the contest the contest, but I wanted to say "Happy Birthday, Inkbunny!" anyway.
I sincerely wish you much, much success with your project, Starling. ^^ I'm a firm believer that good things come to good people, so I trust that the future has awesome things for you. Congratulations, and may the good times continue. *^^*

Hartelijk gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag Inkbunny. =D
But seriously, I might try my hand at designing a fun T-shirt. ;3 And then it either won't get chosen or people won't buy the T-shirt out of spite. =w= Aww well, whatever I can do to gain some of that 'unwarranted self-importance'. =P

Congratulations, Inkbunny! I'm late to this party, but way too early with something else. I uploaded something last year that demanded a revamp. The new version might make a good shirt design:
