My Thoughts on AI

Yesterday a friend showed me an AI video of one of his drawings, using the twitter AI, he was really impressed

more and more friends are amazed by this AI, while the movement was just ok and it had a lot of inconsistencies, I tried it

My University thesis was about AI, showcasing it was shit, way before the AI Boom, but the results were interesting, most people didn't mind how bad it looked, so the Thesis was slowly turning into theorizing about a tool for indie animators, basically input keyframes and create inbetweens

I could graduate just by my average grade, so the Thesis was no longer necessary, and I didn't finished it, but that theory stuck in my mind

I tried the grok AI to do simple inbetweens, but it's so bad, it's so shitty, and no consistency at all, it's like a trained monkey showing tricks they can do, but nothing meaningful

the video is ok, but does things I didn't ask, and never do what I want to do, and everything has the same animation movement, there's no style

turns out there are other AI tools to do inbetweens, but it's so expensive and require subscriptions, and other people tried it and has the same complaints as me, and you can just put 2 keyframes, while in an animation you might need more

while I'm not fully againts AI, I don't find it useful for anything, if I want to ask something I can just search for it, bc the AI allucinates and gives wrongs answers, and if I know enough about something and want to use it, it's too dumb

Again, like a trained monkey doing neat tricks but nothing meaningful

My only hope is for the AI bubble to explode so it can lower the prices and maybe someday someone can make an animation Tool like the one I described in my thesis.

I've made a few decent videos before, even have a couple good ones here. But as you said, its fucking ass. I despise working with it, and it can literally take all day to make something decent.

That's the other thing, the amount of time you require to make something as you want it's not worth it

Yep. It took me multiple days of refining to get the 2 animations I have uploaded here. And even still its because I made pics of easy angles. Anything ultra complex isn't happening.

So if I understand this correct, making your own animation without the use of genAI is better?
Isn't it generally better to do it yourself than using genAI because it looks more human than robotic?

I'm going off of what companies have been doing, like coca cola and the olympics, since those apparently have been worked on for weeks and months, if I recall correctly. And no matter how much time you spend I don't think it will look any better anyway. Especially because genAI, like grok, can never be consistent when generating longer shots of videos.

Yeah I know it's not a big shocker, but I've never been closed to new technologies, but AI is not useful in any way for me.

the other tool I talked apparently is decent, so I'm hoping there will be a tool in the future that is actually useful
