ONCE AND  FOR ALL

(copied form Waeio,an italian user on YT) after reading the answers, in italian:
Peperone = singular for bell pepper / Peperoni = plural for bell pepper, the sweet one
Peperoncino = chili pepper, the hot one (plur. peperoncini)
Pepe = black pepper, usually for us it's implied that is black (nero), otherwise it's always written (green/verde, white/bianco, rosa/pink)
Paprika is not an italian word, for us it's a grounded spice but we don't know exactly what's inside because it's advertised with images of tomatoes and chilis, usually on chips
Salame (sing.) piccante = spicy salami, like the american pepperoni, if you just ask salame you will get the non spicy version
Salumi (plural) = the whole family of cured meats, charcuterie


this is my take on the seemingly endless self-reclusive attitude italians very often never realize to apply to other cultures and yet keeping blaming other towns about. many Italians have no will to explain even the simplest bit of their own food habits and culture well you know what ? this  YT user DOES AND SO DO I!
even Japanese people did something to educate countries way far away from thier to their customs  ,not only on food,and did something to try and loosen up on their own tastes,trying ti accept teh "Variations" foreigneers did of their own ever-so-strictly obeyed--to traditional Nihon-san dishes WHY CAN'T  ITALY ?
this is the exact reason why Italians got so frequently mocked-up about their tastes in food or their customs: we are evne more closed than Japanese,russians,and Chinese put together,adn i think this need to change soone ror later...

for now i can do my part,posting this small comment i found (and stole x3 huh uh..im still an italian after all x3) and yup. even trying a slice of PINEAPPLE PIZZA sooner or later XD

Pineapple on pizza is tasty, but not consumed by itself.

In my mouth, I find it works best with something crispy like USA style or English style bacon.
The saltiness of the bacon mingles well with the sweetness of pineapple, and the crispiness from the bacon resists pineapple's ability to tenderize meat much longer than Canadian-style bacon or ham chunks. :)

This said, I'd try both bacon pineapple, and ham and pineapple pizzas to get the different experiences, and see which one might appeal more.

Hey, thanks for the Italian language class, man! :D Grazie mille! It was very informative, indeed!

Well, to be honest, I never thought about those cultural issues from other countries and it's new for me that Italian people were like that about their foods and such. I live in Brazil, and we have A LOT of influence of many people around the world (at least in my town, São Paulo), but the strongest one is Italian (also, Portuguese and Spanish, because our history). I never did see that cultural self-reclusive in any of the districts with Italian majority (maybe because they're living here, so they had to adapt themselves to our culture and such, and foods are a important part of it, at least here ^^).

About the pineapple in pizza, would anyone believe if I say it's not a thing here? We have other kinds of sweet pizza, so I think it just didn't had attention enough to be rejected... ^^; Well, I don't give up of my guava with cheese pizza (which we call it "Romeo and Juliet") for anything! xD

In almost all Italian Pizzeria's is served as dessert a sweet variation: a simple unsalted dough, lightly cooked in the oven, with a generous spread of Nutella (if desired also with icing sugar) XP

Uhm...Personally I don't see it as a self-reclusive attitude, more simply we Italians find it bizarre that in the rest of the world the traditional dishes of our country are crippled in the most unimaginable ways...and passed off as authentic "Italian" dishes.

The Hawayan Pizza is a variation of the traditional Pizza (you can't even imagine how many types of pizza exist here in Italy besides the simple Margherita), can like and dislike; I got to taste it...and I didn't find it very terrible, but frankly it's not in my taste; if I have to choose a pizza that has sweet and savory notes in it...I would opt for a Gorgonzola and Pears.
Remaining on topic...a dish that is the most popular in the USA is the famous pasta "Alfredo's"...well, in Italy that dish doesn't exist and is not included in any famous cookbook. Yet it is passed off as a traditional dish, even if it is not.
Same for the "Maccaroni Cheese", which is simply an American variant of the Italian "Pasta with cheese" (which however I tried and I find good)
if I list the different pasta formats that we have in Italy, the different types of sauces and condiments for it (as well as the variants) and even the alternative mixes...a month wouldn't be enough. You've to come here to understand it better (and eat well) ;)
