How to Get Me to Ignore & Unfollow You:

by
Post EVERYTHING under "Patreon Preview" & paywall. If I thought your art was good enough to pay for, I'd be paying you. I pay 21 Patreon supports. If you're not on it your art isn't what I consider good enough to pay for. Get better before trying the "Click here & become a Patreon to see the full pic!" route.

The way to gain Patreons is to post full pics worth paying for a couple weeks sooner. When you hide your ENTIRE account behind a paywall with nothing but censored pics, say goodbye to about 75% of your fans. We'll just find your stuff on e621 & resent you for making it one more step to obtain.

I second this. I support a bunch of creators on Patreon, but not a one of them is 100% behind a paywall. I make it a point to avoid supporting any creators that take that approach, because it says to me, as a longtime fan of some of them, that they only care about using their art as a money maker, and fuck the people who supported them before then.
Edit because I jumped the gun on posting: It isn't even about being good enough to support - there are plenty of creators out there I'd gladly throw money at. Rather, it's more about the message they send to their fans by locking any new content behind a paywall, and throwing a fit when someone leaks it.

This is my feeling. There's a few who, since they created their Patreon, ALL of their work is now Patreon only. When they do this I - and apparently a LOT of past fans - unfollow them because we get tired of looking at "teaser" thumbnails. I'll wait a couple days & find their work on one of the furry dump sites for free & they'll not even get the appreciation of a +Fav for it in the end.

Right there with you an all of those points. I can think of at least a half dozen just off the top of my head that I can think of that I've unfollowed for those exact reasons, though in the interest of not starting shit (however slim the chance may be) I won't say here.

I respect that. I had stated the offender's name (well, for at least this rant) in my original post but in the interest of not starting TOO much drama I removed it.

I've never had put any of my art behind a paywall...The way I see it, that only reduces the amount of viewers who see your work.

You'll actually get more Patreons by publicly offering all works. The advantage of Patreon could be they get to see the work a couple weeks before it's public. Or maybe a higher-res version. By making it all available only to Patreons you ostracize your own fan base & limit your viewers severely. Not a wise plan to succeed.

Can I just openly admit that I hate Patreon? I am glad it exists and people can use it, and artists can get a number of supporters.

What I am starting to hate about it is, how it's literally everywhere now. Every podcast I hear, every other artist I watch, they all started advertising it, and it's just getting on my nerves. Rant over.

I don't mind it for preview rights or larger file privileges. What I despise is when an artist puts ALL of their art behind the wall & thinks we'll all jump up to pay to see. Why would I when I can find those "private" pics on e621 in a couple days? Now if you want to create a Patreon & give subscribers a 2-week preview or a bigger file for their collection - I'm fine with that. Hell, I pay 6 Patreons that would release those same files for free in a month but to me it's worth it to see it NOW. But to paywall everything - fuck you, I'll steal your art.

Pretty much... There's actually some people I'd kinda like to Patreon too, but the fact that they wall everything more or less puts a dirty taste in my mouth... So I don't give them any money, and I kinda begin to overlook their content. Because it's all teasers and nothing worth looking at.

I don't like Patreon too much for the same reasons. :3
