What are some reasons you unwatch an artist

by
This year i've noticed I have a new pet peeve, or maybe I've always had it, and just this type of thing is more common with the more people I watch.
But I really dislike when artist make fun of the way other artist draw. Its Something I un-watch for immediately.
I also un-watch artist that have a notable problem with completing their owed work, and also post every excuse in the book as to why they cant finish it.
And if an artist doesnt allow commissioners to post the art they commissioned, even with proper credit. I like repost art I commission lol

And of course the more normal reasons
Not being active, loss of interest
And maybe not to normal, is watching them is somewhat of a downer/ depressing.

Main reason I stop watching an artist/creator is if they switch content away from what I first watched them for. For example one artist switched away from mostly furry to mostly human.
Clara

I think i've un-watched for this too
Especially if I was planning on commissioning them for the thing they no longer do lol

I've unwatched a couple for having "I'm better than everyone and my crap don't stink" attitudes as well, but that's rare.

That's probably my main reason as well. That is, their focus of what they're going to draw changes from artwork of a certain type to different type, for example, and that trend continues for a few months.

For me, it's usually when I don't like their personality (or at least what of it can be seen through their descriptions, comments and journals), or when I simply don't find their art appealing anymore.

A perfect example of the latter is a certain artist who's first letter is A and has 6 letters, their art is nice and they seem to be a nice fella, but they put out so much art that my eyes literally became bored of their style.
Clara

I'm always worried about posting so much people get tired of seeing my art. Probably why I always have 15+ things I need to post lol
Though for me I enjoy seeing and artist post alot, but it might be because as an artist I inadvertently learn things when I see them enough ;;;; (ah when it comes to drawing!! lol I dont learn shit from seeing other things that often XD)

I love seeing you posting new art, they are all so damn cute. <3

The main reason I unwatch is content I'm against, usually not tagged properly so I can blacklist it. Or artists that only draw bandwagons... which is kinda silly, considering I've watched a few for actually drawing bangwagon-y characters.
Clara
8 years, 7 months ago
I dont even know how to blacklist tags, or I havent tried too and dont plan on it lol, so if someone start posting alot of stuff that i'm not in it for, i'll also un-watch ovo;;!

I normally learn about new things when artist I know start jumping on the bangwagon. Thats how I found out about undertale XD

Lol, someone I used to know bought me the game, and was like 'MAN YOU HAVE TO PLAY THIS IT HAS FURRIES AND STUFF'

It grew on me. It's a pretty good game. o3o

It's pretty trivial - there's a block link below each list of keywords on each submission or you can go to Blocked Keywords directly on your userpage or the main menu. Better than unwatching because then you don't see it from anyone else, either.
AeylinFaith

If I end up unwatching it's becouse the artist behaves in a way I disaprove (and really disaprove, like you mentioned bashing on other artist style/skill- being disrespectfull towards clients, watchers or other artist etc, and sometimes when I feel like they are arrogant as in never having the descency to respond to at least a few comments on their artwork, or when they have a journal asking for feedback where they don't respond to a single one or just like 2 out of 15.

Theres a slight chance I unwatch if theres a constant cry for attention, wether that's constantly asking/reminding theres a commision/ych slot open or constantly complaining about life (especially if when you then proceed to aproach them for just chatter and or venting they are claiming they don't need help or simply ignore.. so they do one thing but say the other).

Loss of interest is an option but then I just kinda ignore the art unless it really bothers me.
Clara
8 years, 7 months ago
I'm so guilty with not reply to comments lol, I just blank on what to say ovo;;;

Sometimes I get annoyed when I see too many notification about someones commissions being open, but then I think, "well you know how it is" then just try to ignore it.
Now I might un-watch if it seems like their complaining too much that no one is commissioning them, or try to guilt trip people into it.
AeylinFaith
8 years, 7 months ago
Well, it's naturaly you don't always have a responce, but some just simply ignore their comments, or read them and then just leave them be.. wich I find both queite rude if it's something that happens a lot

((unless it are short comments like: "good job" "that's hot" "love it!"
Becouse that's pretty pointless :P, but well tought out comments for whatever reason, if they take the time reading them it's really no efford to at least type a few words to let them know you read it/aprieciate it or have some come-back))

And yeah, usally I ignore journals/art for reminders unless interested, but when it feels like wining/complaining I tend to be anoyed.

I generally unwatch people when their asshole level gets too high.  Lately it's been over politics, but there are other reasons.  And I typically give people a looot of leeway, so it's not a done-on-a-whim thing.
Clara
8 years, 7 months ago
I tried not to talk about politics this year anywhere maybe aside from retweets ,and re-blogging on tumblr.......ovo;;;
But After getting into with my mother in law, I just dont...
I like to think I give alot of leeway...but deep down and more honestly maybe I dont <.< >.>;;;;

The main reasons why I tend to unwatch artists is when they become unreliable or mistreat their customers, such as racking up huge backlogs with no evident intent to finish them, all while taking more and more commissions. Or, on rare occasions, when an artist accepts and finishes commissions but makes digs at their clients for things like the species or design of their characters, or the theme(s) they asked to be drawn. Fortunately, I've only seen that happen two or three times in all the years I've been here.

Other reasons are for simply losing interest in their work, though that almost never happens, or if they start posting far more 'con photos or photos of their toys/guns/cars/whatever than actual artwork. I don't begrudge people enjoying their possessions, and I certainly don't expect artists to cater to my tastes just because I watch them, but that's not what I'm here for.

Finally, I'll probably unwatch someone if I have a particularly unpleasant experience with commissioning them, because I figure they won't want to work with me again. But that's only happened once so far.
Clara

Didnt think about the posting too many rl photos of things, but now that I think about it there is someone on fa that posts a bunch of their collectibles and every time they do, I think about un-watching ;;;;

GreenReaper
8 years, 7 months ago
Well, they can't do that here because it's against our photo policies, anyway.
SirBrownBear
8 years, 7 months ago
I usually unwatch artists if their content starts to go in a direction that's vastly different from what they had when I started watching them, I find out they've been tracing/stealing ideas from others all along, or if they start showing their true colors and prove to be rather toxic. (Usually from repeat instances, I usually forgive and overlook an angry/mean spirited rant journal, depending on how "severe" it is.)
Clara
8 years, 7 months ago
Pretty guilty with the rants part lol, though lately I try to keep my rants to my husband, better that way XD
SirBrownBear

Lol, not "casual" rants, I mean like ones that like directly call out/shame people or groups, and inadvertently, or intentionally start witch hunts, things like that =p

When an artist uploads a thumbnail image as the first image instead of using the actual custom thumbnail feature, that's an instant unwatch.

When artists start spamming Patreon journals, or watermarking their images with Patreon logos, that's also an instant unwatch. If the artist wants to use that site, that's fine. I just don't want to be flooded with it on this site.

That's probably my most common reasons for it right now.
Clara
8 years, 7 months ago
I havent had to un-watch anyone due to Patreon...yet, I mean I get it, even if I cant afford to "get it" lol
Honestly I've thought about opening one, but dont have the time or patience to keep up with it right now.
but if someone I watch only uploads half images with links to Patreon, I might quietly unwatch.
BunnyFoxglove
8 years, 7 months ago
I've run into artists who claim their Patreon is used as a Tip Jar... then post a journal every week reminding people about it. Or  putting the logo on every single image. At that point it's like shaking the tip jar in peoples faces. I have no problem with people who want to make money doing their own thing, but be tasteful about it.

If their sole purpose for being on this site is to promote their Patreon, I just unwatch them. If they put the logo on their art, and don't add the Patreon tag, I unwatch them. It's not usually an issue these days, but I found it was worse before.

Even the people I got in arguments with I still watch =3
Clara

I normally dont talk with people I watch enough to get in arguments, kinda the feeling like why would they wanna talk to me ovo;;;
or maybe because if they say something that i'm gonna get confrontational about I just unwatch them XD
SquikBat

It's rare I had unwatched artist. It's usually if they're being assholes and not caring even if they insult people they've chatted/traded with often. Also artist that just can not tag correctly and stuff that bothers me or grosses me out comes through my filter way too often. If they have the tag suggestions on, I can let that slide longer. I love IB's filters, but it only works if used by uploaders.
KetoArcticWolf

I got three reasons why I'd stop watching an artist. Could write a lot about them and the experiences I've had, but I'll keep it brief.

1. I watch them, because I like what the stuff that they draw. So naturally, if they stop drawing that stuff or switch to something else that does not interest me, I move on. Not like they'll miss a single watcher, if their new stuff gains them as many; or even more, watchers, than they lost.

Or

2. I like the person or I'm friends with them. So unless the artist somehow manages to completely screw up my impression of them or my friendship with them comes to an ugly end, I see no reason to keeping in any contact with them.

Or

3. A horrible experience in commissioning them. Be it running away with the money, acting like an asshole, kink shaming or so on, I'm not gonna stand for an unprofessional artist like that. Again, not like they'll miss a single watcher... and there's always hope for them. As I've seen with couple artists; after them being called out on their bullshit, they have changed the ways in which they treat their customers... others, not so much.

Usually because I get annoyed at high volumes of content that I have no interest in cluttering my new submissions page.
/me is a selfish shellfish.

Drama is a turnoff though.

The reasons I've unwatch artists are: 1) Drama, either making drama or constantly posting journals or art that have something to do with their current 'life crisis'(like dropping their phone for example), 2) Drastic shift in content, this hasn't really happened in awhile but I unwatched ALOT of people when MLP:FIM first came out.
GeorgeGlass
8 years, 7 months ago
I've only unwatched a few artists, but yeah, the drama thing was the reason. Artists who are always ranting in their journals about their latest conflict with so-and-so just end up turning me off to their work by association.

The worst ones, though--and I haven't seen this here, but it's made me unfollow people on other sites--are artists who disrespect their own fans. These would include prima donnas who explode at a bit of constructive criticism or a friendly jab, as well as artists whose journals include statements like, "They will eat up whatever slop I feed them."
GratitudeAdvocate
8 years, 7 months ago
The only reason(s) I've ever un-+watched others have been due to woe-is-me journals and excessive YCHs. Its not beyond impossible for 'em to get off their computers and go seek out a suitable day/night-job. :/

Oh, and when they act like insubordinate dick-cheeses towards either me or others I care about... then they don't get my time of day or support. And if they threaten to kill me, they REALLY get un-+watched, which has happened before. lmfao XD

I like to +watch positive, upbeat, fairly talented artist brimming with creativity and originality. And, of course, those who don't make death threats against me. :3
VioletEchoes

Normal reasons of them not being active but very rare is it loss of interest. I agree that sometimes if that artist is just too depressing i can not handle being around that negativity anymore too but sometimes i will unfollow because of personality, not do not get me wrong i do not hate people for beliefs (unless those beliefs try and attack me) but some artists out there are real assholes and a half.

I unwatch, when their art:
- changes appeal (switching from awesome drawn feral art to medicore anthro art) I don't mind switching from cute to horror, as long as I like the art itself.
- changes the topic to do mainly images about fetishes I don't like at all
- their art style changes and I don't like the direction of change

I unwatch, when the artist:
- acting like an asshole (high nosed / full of themselves)
- outing themselves that they despise furry (or cub, or zoophilia), but still taking their money. If an artist don't want to draw that kind of art, or does not like it, everything is fine - but stating to hate and despise them... then I am out.
- causing too much drama

omg omg THIS
I unwatched a few people for this, pretty much across all the sites i'm on. First its unprofessional, when I go to a restaurant I dont wanna hear how the waiter hate the food. And second its just the feeling of knowing when you commission them for the thing that THEY take money for, when you watch them or comment on something, their looking down on you. Like get out of here with all that.
You dont gotta love it, but when its putting food on the table, maybe be a little wiser about what you say to the people that may commission you to do it.
Nightdancer

Personally, I like directness and people being honest with me, but not liking stuff and despise are two different deeds.
If I know what an artists likes or not, then I can manage my commissions in a way, that each artist can draw what they like.
But I would not like to patreon an artist that openly despises everyone on IB.

This is one of the few reasons I have ever really unfollowed an artist for.

Insulting their own fanbase and supporters (and entire website communities) by calling all of those fan's and supporter's interests or kinks vile, disgusting,  immoral, or wrong....PARTICULARLY after they have already repeatedly accepted money from those fan and supporters to create that content for them with a smile on their face.

I somewhat recently stopped following an artist on all of their accounts across various furry websites whom I had previously really liked... after they one day posted a journal to Inkbunny and displayed what a huge narrow-minded bigot and asshole they were, how out of touch with reality they were, and how very little they cared for or respected the very people who had supported them up until that point.

It's perfectly fine if you decide you are no longer comfortable drawing and participating in certain content and decide to announce that you will no longer do so;  ....But it is certainly not okay to do it while directly insulting your supporters for enjoying that content, ESPECIALLY after you have been accepting payment for creating it and acting friendly towards their interests all the way up until that point, before you decided to come out and call them all disgusting pedophiles who "directly cause IRL child abuse"... along with any number of other narrow-minded insults and baseless accusations about other fetishes and kinks that they clearly "forced" you to draw, right? /rolleyes

I rarely unwatch.  I like art and I like a wide range of topics and fetishes.  For the handful of times I've unwatched:

1. If the artist NEVER draws porn. (seems unfair I guess, but as a porn artist, it just seems weird)
2. If the artist NEVER draws cubs. (I almost feel like deleting this from the list, cause it's super rare that I even do this)

I don't think I've unwatched people for style changes. MAYBE for content changes, I can't remember.

I used to stress about unwatches, but I've realized that sometimes people's tastes changes, or (more likely) my art style has transformed too much and I have to live with whatever the outcome of that is.
IsabelleUrsaga

As has been said previously on here, I tend to unwatch if the artists have proven themselves to be huge jerks, or if they do something super uncool. Such as, not naming names here... Faking their suicide... Basically any time something they don't like happens. :S

I think you pretty much summed it up for me,  besides loss of Interest the only time when I ever unfollow people is if they're just being a general dick to their fans, I remember this one guy I used to follow for a long while actually bragged about driving another artist I followed off of this website. The only other reason I can think of is when there is an inordinate amount love vent art / journals,  like I understand we all have problems but when they do it becomes an encompassing  majority of your work it's just no fun to open up my inbox and see this every single time I log on.

I usually don't unwatch, but there's a few ways of doing it. I don't really care too much about people's positions on things, I don't go out of my way to find out what they are, but if they go out of their way to let me know and it turns out to be awful I unwatch. There's been a couple lately with the election that boggled my mind why they felt the need to broadcast such things, like the tiny bit of bigoted comradely they might have gained from bringing it up was really worth losing tons of watchers? I don't get it :/
AlexanderValentine

I really don't unwatch artists unless they do something that I consider rude, wrong, or hypocritical.

Over this past year, I have unwatched 5 or more people. I can recall 3 for being extremely rude (towards me), 1 for being hypocritical, and 1 for being both rude to me and a friend.

I can usually handle rudeness from watchers and artists, but there have been extreme situations that have irked me to the point of unwatching and/or blocking them; with blocking being exceptionally rare for me.

A few was a group of artists that seemed to almost make a living off hand outs. I don't mind seeing ppl wanting help here and there and I can easily understand ppl needing help but seeing the same person/ppl needing help over and over on such a regular basis makes it look damn suspicious at least to me. If they are in constant need then they need to fix the problem or change to fix it. I'm seeing this a lot in RL too and it's getting quite annoying and at times pissing me off.

Artists/Creators who adds me to ignore/blacklist. This is an instant unwatch and added to my own blacklist.

Artists/Creators who abuse their fans/watchers.

If the artist decides to start putting their art on a paywall site or a site that is generally bad/abusive like FA.

If I just don't like or care much for the art anymore. This rarely happens because of my likes/dislikes... it's more like the artist changed his style, seems to be producing greatly inferior stuff, changed his art to another fetish like going from straight to gay, cats to monkeys, etc. This varies a bit since I can understand if they sacrifice quality to get a lot of work orders done fast since they are behind or if it's a series of commissions. I also wait and judge it after a while.. like a couple month’s or a few gallery pages to see if the artist goes back or if he's sticking with it.

.....oddly enough....if I watch you....I will always.....it usually takez a bit to even get me to look, but when I do I allow the person their own rope....it'z up to them to kick the chair!....XD.....still...I watch for a reason; even just to remember what name decided to show me how they swing from the gallowz.......though I am fair with it and don't mention namez directly, but I will stare on az all who I have met I will remember az they are a part of what made me this dream.....(/^.^\)

Honestly I've unwatched people for many reasons, their art could be some of the best I've ever seen but if they're an utter asshole I will watch them in an instant, likewise I've unwatched people solely because I lost interest in they're content and have even gone back and rewatched some of them months later...

Luckily I haven't had to unwatch many people for being assholes. Usually if I unwatch an artist, it's just me personally, like if my tastes change a bit or I find I'm not as interested in a particular artist's work as I used to be. Most of the time I only do this if the artist posts a lot, though. Otherwise, I just forget I'm following them.

If they flood me with the same submissions over and over.. OxO
I'm not talking about just a few reminders.. I've had maybe three or four different people that would resubmit things multiple times a day as "reminders" .
Oh, they reminded me alright. Reminded me to kick 'em off my list ~_~ !

I also go by their respect, manners, and overall personality. They can have beautiful art, but if I think they're an ugly person (meaning how they present theirself, not their actual appearance) then I just can't support them in any fashion.

I think that's all for me.. ^^'

I have multiple reasons to unwatch people but I'm a forgiving person who give chances.

In the end I will unwatch someone when they make their entire gallery "Pay 2 view" *this also extends to people who abuse patreon*

When their art change from tasteful to just dreadfully tryhard due to whatever.

If they are total assholes.

Focus on a blocked content (thus rendering the majority of their gallery invisible to me)

I'd name the last reason but its a reason that triggers everyone x3

If their journals become overly political over a longer period of time/soap box style journals I unwatch. IF their content takes a dive or they only produce primarily what I'm not into I unwatch. If I find out about extremely unethical behavior I typically unwatch.

well i dont like the people who have more than 5 years drawing and come a noob artist like me and they take me like garbage or a bug because i have less than 8 months drawing on digital and they have so much time drawing than me so they feels superior so they win an un-watch. im very friendly and i always try to reply the comments but sometimes i dont understand the comments e.e for my English x3. on this 8 months drawing 5 artist un-watch me for no reason(they have more time here and have more than 3k of watchers) ┐('~`;)┌ and they were mutual watch with me so i un-watch they too (i really like they art but now are un-watched for me). i always draw vanilla stuff for me i only draw kinky pics for the costumers so i dont know why un-watch me (my patreon its for commissions not its a tip jar, i always upload the full resolution pics, the only watermark of my pics its my signature) im very tolerant with the people i watch i respect their kinks and tastes so idk some people hate me (´n`) or that i think so.

The only artist I can recall unwatching, was someone had a nice art style that immediately cuaght my eye. Later however, I realised that 90% of what they posted was gore; like a chained up cub having his limbs hacked off while getting knotted.

I typically never unwatch people, but... lately I've found myself wishing to unwatch artists who are beginning to delve into fetishes that I don't enjoy at all. I've had a few who decided to start specializing in fetishes that make me absolutely flee in terror. As a result, every other piece thy submit becomes that fetish and I begin to really fall off.... \3

I have a hard time keeping up with people's submissions, much like I have a hard time replying to comments, so usually it's just particularly rude or prejudiced behavior in journals that leads to me changing my mind about watching someone.  I genuinely can't appreciate somebody's art if I don't like them as a person.
In the same way, I can like more of the genres they make than I would normally care for if they seem nice.
Keeran

There are times where I have unwatched an artist. One being that they hide content/violate copyright laws by making me pay to view content, especially if it's collab work, which reminds me, i need to unwatch someone right now. Not you of course.
Very rarely it's becasue I don't like their style or the content they like to draw. Sometimes i can appreciate their art regardless if it's a kink I may not like.

But the biggest reason  I will unwatch someone is if they are a total cunt-pardon my french. I normally  am a patient person and you really have to go out of your way to piss me off. For example, I had to unwatch someone because this person would get annoyed over the most trivial shit and they would block you for it. They didn't block me, but they would oust this person on their journals afterwards.

Oh and if you have beef with me,  throw an insulting comment, then block me  so I can't respond, then I will unwatch you, kindly tell you to go fuck off (even though I can't), and proceed to block you. Becasue that's what a coward does.

Much like what a lot of people have been saying, a real killer for me is if the artist shows to have a persistently negative, or even hostile attitude. Nearly all of my unwatches have been a result of this.

On the other hand, I have people that I'm watching because they're generally wonderful people, and I continue watching them as a result!
Aogami
8 years, 7 months ago
Unwatching an artist is a choice you make by weighing the pros and cons. Obviously there was something you liked about them to watch in the first place, but if that's no longer the case then you should unwatch them; or if, once you've started watching them there is something so annoying/depressing/unpleasant that it out-weighs what you watched them for then you should unwatch them. Whatever your reasons, you shouldn't feel obligated to watch someone or apologetic about unwatching them. Art is entertainment, and if you find yourself being more irritated than entertained then something's gone wrong. :B

I mostly share the same sentiment.  If they do or act in a inappropriate or ass-hole way, then I'd follow.  But I also take their art in consideration, too.  If they start making things that i'm not okay with, or at a level that i'm not okay with, then i'd prolly stop following them.  I don't care too much about political views or stuff like that, just how they treat other people.

like, honestly, i'm not to fond of cub porn, but if it's done in a cartoonish manner, and it doesn't go below what is obviously a certain age (i.e. babies are a nope for me), then i might stick around.  like, with your art, I stick around because your style is cartoonish, your characters are cute, and you do create some interesting back stories and relationships with your characters.

The ONLY thing that will get me to unfollow an artist is them starting to mostly produce art that I don't like and can't filter out (becuase they're on FA, don't tag correctly, etc.). I can still enjoy art drawn by a total asshole, and if someone goes inactive they aren't taking up space in my feed anyway, so I may as well stay followed in case they come back.

I usually watch an artist when I faved around 3 or more of their works.

I then unwatch an artist when I look at my watch list once every 3 months or so, and could not remember why I watched them... then looked into their gallery to locate which art I liked. If their more recent content did not appeal to me, I unwatch them until I faved their work another 3 times.

That's the normal reason why I watch/unwatch anyone. It keeps my watch list tidy and keep submission notices low and manageable (since I spazz when I get 30 or more a day!

I've unwatched someone because of their constant complaining about a certain character configuration, basically whining about why they exist and how _x_ is so much better than _y_ and basically stomping his feet about it. It really really pisses me off, so I said my piece in reply to their journal and got the eff away.

When they keep deleting their art, even their commission's. Then reposting them again. I don't want to have to save everything that I like from that artist.

When they constantly don't tag their art with the appropriate fetishes. I don't want to have to add tags or be careful when browsing fap material.

When the negitivity outweighs the positives of watching. Eg fancy-fancy

Simply not posting art doesn't call for a unwatch, you would need to get on my nerves and/or piss me off.

usually 2 reasons. either the artist goes sketch happy and spams my inbox or someone turns out to be an asshole (usually easily detectable by their journal entries lol)

The only reason I unwatch?  If they are being an asshole to me or their fans and I get tired of their BS.  Otherwise, I don't unwatch.
