Some updates!

Just a quick note about the latest feature updates. A full news journal about them will be posted soon.

Keyword Autocomplete

You may notice we now have a keyword autocomplete feature when you go to the Search page. It will also show on the keyword entry page for Submissions.

This is a highly experimental new feature for this site. There may be some bugs and other weirdness at first. Please report any problems you have with it.

Keywords are "rated" based on the kinds of images they are applied to. So generally, someone with adult ratings turned off will get tamer keyword suggestions. It's not perfect but it should keep most of the really naughty words out of view for anyone that has higher ratings disabled.

Only keywords assigned to a significant number of submissions will be shown as suggestions.

No longer using Google Analytics or Addthis.com

In a move to improve privacy, we are no longer using scripts that send your IP and other personal data offsite (which included Google Analytics and Addthis.com share buttons). We now use a local stats tracking package that runs on the Inkbunny server. The Addthis.com share buttons weren't being used much and were just a pain in the butt.

More details about other changes will be posted in the official news journal soon!

Thanks

I'm just glad to see keyword autocomplete added.  It's a feature I requested back in the private beta.  But I suspect it's probably harder to implement than it sounds.

I'm glad to see the speed improvements by not having outside links such as Google Analytics or AddThis. On to many sites, people tend to blame them for the slowdowns when it's actually the outside services such as Visitor trackers and such.

Thank you for your concern about privacy.  That is completely and wholly appreciated!  <3

Great news as usual. I block sites like Analytics anyway, so it's good to hear you got rid of them.

I noticed you removed the "search by rating" feature placeholder on the search page. Does this mean search by rating is gone for good? I found that feature pretty useful, and was a bit disappointed when it was disabled, so I really hope it gets put back in soon.

Last I heard it was taxing the server or something like that (not sure). But I've been thinking about that myself a bit. But I think I've come up with a solution: Site added keywords that are searchable by users.

For example, if something is 'adult' rated, the site can add a non-removable "rating:adult" keyword to the submission so people can just use the regular search function and find what they're looking for. =)

I'm going to send a support ticket about this right now, actually. That could work, possibly. =)

That sounds like a great idea too. I hope people would also remember to add "rating:clean" and "rating:mature" though.

Wouldn't have to worry about it as the site would auto add it for people (at least it would in my idea anyways). =p

That would be even better. :)

Yeah, I hope they bring back "search by rating" soon. It's alright for people who only want to see clean stuff - they can block mature submissions from the "allowed ratings" page. But there's no way to block clean submissions anymore. Now if you want to search for mature-only, you have to find your way through a load of clean stuff. If we can't get search-by-rating back, I hope they can add a clean/general filter in the "allowed ratings" page. Anyway, it's great to have autocomplete to save us from typing the whole keyword.

I had both of those things blocked from the start. ^_^; Though if I remember correctly, the website owner can decide how much information is sent to Google, though I believe IP is required (not sure). There has to be some sort of server-side thing that could be added, like I've heard of people using a 1x1 invisible gif to keep track of page views and stuffs.

Anyways, thanks for the update. =3

Indeed it is, from what I know, possible with another line of code, but well, getting rid of it sure cannot hurt.^^
Not that I particularly distrust Google, I mean, I've got an android phone, Google contacts and calendar, use Chrome and Google+, soooo.^^
But still, it's great to see IB cares about such stuff.
Well, now I block "Piwik" instead of "Google Analytics", but nya, I still appreciate it, that's for sure. *nods*

I really like the privacy thing :3

I know this is wayyyy off topic but I found myself staring at that maintenance mode picture thinking it'd look cute with a boner, but then again, sometimes I just have a dirty mind :3

I don't know if it's just firefox being broken again, but pages aren't loading fully since.

hehee I like the changes away from addthis and google. I use noscript to block stuff like that so it's better for you too because now you get my statistics.

as for search.. Will we ever be able to search by submission type anytime soon?

The auto-complete feature got kind of annoying for me. It interferes with the use of the tab key and was kind of obnoxiously large. It blocked almost a whole text box.  And sometimes it wouldn't easily go away unless I either clicked the word I wanted (regardless that I had already fully typed the word in) or clicked elsewhere.

Maybe it's just Firefox, or maybe it's just me. Dunno. o.O?
