Profile
My name is Katy. I am an Orthodox Christian, a libertarian, and an artist. I take joy in the love of God, in the radiance of nature, and in the preservation of freedom.
I have always been a very prolific drawer of animals and various other things. My mother tells me that, when I was 2, she found that I'd figured out how to turn on the computer, navigate to the art program, and start drawing. For me, drawing is not a way of dealing with problems, expressing important ideas, or making statements-- it is about satisfying a visceral desire to pick up any wayward pens and create (but it helps me deal with my emotions too). I was one of those students who spent most classes drawing pictures of dragons and wolves instead of taking notes. For most casual observers, the fact that I was meant to do art was obvious; but for me, the plain reality was buried underneath the idea that I had to do something glamorous. I have since come to my senses, and am now launching The Feathered Cat-- or Feathercat-- the banner under which my current and future works will be collected.
Currently, I am working primarily in watercolors, with some work in ballpoint pen and oil paint. My subject matter varies, but focuses primarily on furries, animals, and chimaera. My favorite creatures to draw and paint are currently cats, but my other favorites are dragons, fish, snakes, big cats, wolves, and dinosaurs. I also take great pleasure in creating new animals, and these creations will likely come to constitute the bulk of my work apart from cats. My favorite non-animal subject matter is space-- I love to paint the detail on the surfaces of planets, or the layering in the atmosphere of a gas giant, and I love the shape and luminescence of a spiral galaxy. My art is limited only by my imagination, and I am always imagining new things.
