Background/History
Kelly's mother and father died when she was young when they were caught in a shipwreck during a thunderstorm. Although she too was caught in the wreck, Kelly survived. Kelly felt that her parent's death was her fault, so she left her home city without telling anyone and went into isolation. She was afraid at the time that if others spent time around her, they would end up hurt, so she settled into a grotto by herself far from the city she was born. As she became older, she grew out of her fear, but was now afraid to return because of how hurt the friends she had must have felt when she just disappeared in the middle of the night.
One night, Kelly was spotted by a boat, and the people aboard made an attempt to capture her. She managed to escape, but was wounded by a harpoon that grazed her. Despite her injury, she managed to will herself a bit further. However, she soon lost consciousness and later awoke on the shore of a beach. After her previous order, she was terrified when a woman by the name of Alice Kurogane found her. Alice managed to assure Kelly that she didn't mean any harm, and worked quickly to get Kelly out of site before anyone else might see her. After taking a look at Kelly's wound, Alice was able to convince Kelly to allow her to bring her to her lab for medical treatment. Kelly quickly came to trust Alice, and the two became friends. Still shaken from her earlier ordeal, Alice allowed Kelly to stay in the large water tank at the lab. Kelly was understandably nervous, but Alice promised that Kelly would be safe there, and that she wouldn't authorize any kind of tests to be done on Kelly unless she gave them her permission. As a result, Kelly also befriended several of the scientists in the lab and developed a newfound trust in humans.
Later on, Kelly was introduced to a good friend of Alice's, and took a quick liking to him. That same day, Alice used the molecular transfer ray developed by Dr. Thomas Chase to merge Kelly molecules with those of a human, reawakening her ability to become human when her tail and fins are completely dried. Kelly spend the day with Alice's friend, and by night, realized that she wanted to stay with him in his home. She had hesitated earlier in the day to ask because she feared that he would be angry and that she was being selfish. Kelly was so relieved when she told him and he wasn't angry. In fact, he welcomed her to stay, and after a talk with Alice, Kelly was given permission to stay with him. Through interaction with him, his friends, and the outside world, Kelly is learning more about humans and how they live with each passing day.
