Finally a new submission ... And it isn't even pr0n :-/
Next one will be NSFW, I promise :p

This video was a pretty much nightmare to do. It didn't turn out at all how I envisioned it and it took much longer to make than expected, because I had to test so many things and tweak here and there to make it work. And still, I never got it to look the way I wanted it to.
Furthermore, halfway through the project I got tired of it and just wanted to get over with it, which is pretty evident in the last half of the video ...
Lots of trouble with layering also produced some very noticable errors which I could't seem to get around without making some big changes.

I haven't uploaded the .blend file because it ended up at nearly 1GB ...

Why it take so long to render? I heard that 3D rendering is done by the CPU, and not the GPU, you know how much time could be saved if all rendering was done on the GPU?

This is rendered on a GPU. 3D just takes a long time to render, especially when you throw fur into the mix. And it had to render between 1 and 5 layers depending on the frame. All the streaks of light are rendered on 2 separate layers each. And then there's about 10 seconds of compositing on top of each frame.

I see. I don't know anything about 3D rendering, I just look at it the same way I see the way video games are rendered. Games have fur and multiple layers as well, and it's all rendered at over 60FPS depending on the GPU, so I just assume 3d rendering is all the same lol. My 390X is pretty damn fast, so I assume it would have to be able to rip through a 3D scene like the one in this video, and do it all in seconds lol

Short answer is that games cheat ;) Things usually aren't as they appear.

I remember reading that these 3d renderings use ray tracing? and games use rasterization, RT is far more hardware intensive than rasterization. thats just one little thing I remember hearing about.

There are a lot of differences.
