Tanner and Lexi are ice fenra from the frigid north, a region plagued by sub-zero temperatures, continuous hurricane-force winds, and snow. It is unknown what causes the formidable weather, but the northern ice fenra have become well-adapted to the eternal storm's fury. They are equipped with thick fur and a natural resistance to the cold that work together to make them perfectly comfortable in temperatures that would likely be fatal to other fenra if left exposed for too long. The density of their coat makes them highly resistant to the the region's merciless winds.
Despite the region's lethal environment, the ice fenra tend less toward physical strength and more toward their affinity for the cold element. They are far more magically inclined than their southern cousins. Conventional dwelling places are impossible in the far northern region of Etris. For this reason, the ice fenra have used a combination of hard labor and their magic to carve out a home within the sheer glacial cliffs along the coast. Northern ice fenra dwellings are elaborately decorated and furnished with ice shaped by the fenra themselves and the furs of creatures caught by their hunters. Because of the weather, the vast majority of their food supply comes from fishing holes in the floors of the fenras' homes; however, small hunting parties do occasionally venture out for other resources.
Tanner is the son of a pair of well-to-do ice fenra and was born into a world of aristocracy that he has neither the time nor patience for. Already an oddity in and of himself due to his light-pink eyes, an unheard-of trait amongst the predominantly blue-eyed northern ice fenra, Tanner further alienates himself from the rest of his noble-blooded peers with a complete lack of respect for social codes and expectations unless threatened with dire consequences by his flustered parents. The public display of his love affair with the lowly peasant girl, Lexi, whom he became partnered with, only serves to rub salt into the wounds he has caused his parents with his numerous and blatant faux pas. His parents have urged him to give up his wild tenancies and become the noble fenra he was meant to be; however, their embarrassment with their son's peasant partner and insistence that she be kept out of the public eye have resulted in the loss of their son. Fed up with his peoples' class-based society, Tanner has cut off his thick fur and gone in search of the southern ice fenra in the hopes that they will take him and his partner in.
Lexi is a young ice fenra who was born into the lower class. Females in northern ice fenra society take a back seat to the males when it comes to the social hierarchy. As both a female and a lower class fenra, that puts Lexi on the bottom rung of the ladder; a ladder that she can never advance herself upon. While life as a lower class female isn't terrible if you can get past being looked down upon and generally ignored if you're not being told to cook, clean, or fish, the "being ignored" part does have its perks. Lexi loves to carve pieces of wood in her spare time that she has managed to collect during her outings with her family and the other gatherers. She is quite skilled at what she does, even managing to trade her figurines for larger portions of fish and other things that may increase her standard of living. Her recent partnership with a young male from the noble class has caused some big changes in her life. Though Tanner proved to be nothing like the rest of his kind and moved her into his parents' extravagant home with him, his parents do not recognize Lexi as an equal and keep her hidden away at home. After some heated arguments with his parents, Tanner left Lexi in their care to search for the southern ice fenra, promising her he would return for her once he had found a new home for them.
