The only way I can think this world would work is if babies are not born dumb and helpless like here, they're instead born with a litany of knowledge on the world. Afterwords, they work until they reach "adulthood"; closer to retirement in practice, where they are given all the time in the world to enjoy being themselves. The children mostly don't mind the adults and whatever anger or annoyance they display is often disguised envy; the adults get to be free to experiment and find themselves while the children have to keep the world from exploding. Just makes me wonder what would happen if someone from our world crash-landed on theirs; would there be horror over our set-up? Would their be those who jockey for emulation of our system? What's considered to be the Legal Age on their planet?
