The concept is based on what I love the most in horror games and movies in general, the isolation in a hostile environment, cold harsh winter deep in the woods with no sounds echoing and the tensed and nearly hopeless struggle to survive against a unknown evil with only a limited supply of ammo and such.
It is initially inspired by a old canceled horror game called "Agartha" that was being developed by the same guy who created the original "Alone in the Dark" in 1992 and was supposed to be released on the Sega Dreamcast but Sega decided to stop all production for the console due to low sales and such.
You can find a 15 minute long footage on Youtube, demonstrating the potential concept of the game and it still looks simple amazing to me personally. I still get chills from it that I simply had to make a pic based on that.
The background is from a Minnesota winter cabin I think and the shadows were something I picked up at random from Google images.
