I don't know how much of the story is true. The mediocrity of Soviet technology and the way their official propaganda tried to pass is as superior to the West is a fact. But the rest of the story doesn't ring true to me. If it really happened it would have been buried so deep that we would have never heard of it. Events much less incriminating than this one were efficiently erased by sending everyone involved and all their relatives to Siberian Gulags.
